The admins cannot guarantee any sales, trades, etc. The sale section has a caveat emptor like warning about such.

The most we can do is get enough background to confirm claims and ban/time-out someone after the fact. As with any transaction, you and your own judgement are your safety net.

IIRC, Zelle is often used by scammers because there are less "fluid" ways of getting your money back afterward.

Buyer beware.

Live and learn. I only use paypal in these type of transactions. Hell, I'll even pay the seller's fees just to get the protection paypal offers. Not a paypal commercial, they have their flaws too. But more often than not I have been able to get my money back when the seller didn't perform. Zelle and Venmo are for people you already know and trust (or you don't mind if they rip you off). Sorry, you just got schooled in how to get screwed in an online transaction, integrate the lesson and don't be fooled again.

Nobody has ripped me off on a motorcycle forum yet..... the personal message system works fine. Guys who know me sometimes send me stuff first and I pay later, and it is expected there is respect. Go outside, somewhere else, caveat emptor.

First I've ever heard of this zelle business. 😆
Pretty common payment service that is offered by my bank. But it is more of a way to send money to your kids than anything I would pay strangers with. The guy I sold my FJR panniers wanted to use it, didn't seem to be any risk on the receiving side but that is the only time I have ever used it.

I still use cash so what do I know... 😆
Well, if you happen to be standing in front of me - that is still my preferred method as well ;)

Here in Canada, it's called E-transfer, you log into your online banking and send money to E mail address, when sending E- transfer you setup a password and then text it to recipient phone, as an additional safety.

For whatever reason the access to forum members on here is a magnet for scammers.
I was targeted a few months back and my demand to use PayPal quickly sent him/her/bot elsewhere.
This and a couple different forums I moderate.
The press buy a seller for venmo, zelle an similar "direct pay" methods is a huge red flag due to their lack of "protection".

In my case “it sounded like” a member on here knew someone that had what I wanted and gave me this other persons email.
I did make a mistake contacting the other person, then I noticed the 1st person to contact me via pm on here, had no posts.
A few other questions to the 2nd party (?) like send a picture and “PayPal only” quickly discourage them.

This seems like a common one. Seller pretends to be “helping a friend” sell their stuff. Any pictures are lifted right off Google images.

They really come out of the woodwork for “Want to Buy” posts because they know exactly what you want and they will magically conjure up an image of it.

It’s very uncool that these things happen BUT, the reason why scammers exist is because there is an endless pool of people that have no common sense. When all the red flags are present and you go through with it anyway…..you are your own worst enemy.

There are some people that have no bounds on self-inflicted pain. Don’t wish a scam on anyone, but as my grandpappy used to say “does it hurt when you do that? Yes? Well don’t do that!”

I appreciate the advice.. Probably my fault. I appreciate the breadth of the website and the wealth of experience. And , after owning 6 previous bikes, I believe I have found the bike best suited to me. Will stick to more traditional sites for shopping needs.
Sounding like cooler heads are prevailing, that's good. Again, I'm sorry you gotten taken. But IMHO, with a little better care, there's no reason not to buy from reputable folks here on the forum. I haven't been stiffed yet. As you spend more time here you'll get to know the folks and get a better idea of who is who. I just recently sent a part out for trial by the potential buyer with a couple different 'try now, pay later' options.
