Fault Code 44 - safe to ride?

2014 FJR. Sat for far too long but bike fired right up when I went to ride it. Rode for 60 mins. Pulled over for coffee. Battery dead. :(

Fault Code 44 showed on the dash as did the Suspension light. Couldn't switch suspension settings. Won't even show up as an option. Bump started the bike. Ran fine for the 60 minutes back to home. Got home, turned the bike off, then back on. Still dead. Still Fault Code 44. Suspension light still on.

Hooked up to trickle charger. 36 hours later, bike started just fine but Suspension light still on. Going to take it in for a new battery and scheduled spring maintenance. My question is, is the bike "safe" to ride? I know the fault code is for the suspension control unit, SCU and it's a "simple" (for you guys - not for me! :) ) matter of resetting it. I need to ride it to the mechanic, 45 mins away on the main road (no twisties or aggressive riding).

Would that be OK/safe?

I did a forum search and found this from 2014 but Queensland Ken didn't post the reset instructions to the site and his other links are broken.

Thanks for any help and advice.

I take it you do not have the repair manual.
I do not. To be honest, it would be wasted on me. I'm mechanically incompetent and am not allowed to use tools. :)
You need to do diagnostic code 84. Simultaneously press TCS button and Reset button for 2 seconds.
Got it. Thanks! Now I have to go find out where those buttons are. :)

Safe to ride, just need to reset the suspension preload. You really should have the manual......

To enter DiAG, press and hold TCS and Reset, then turn ignition on and hold for 8+ seconds. Then press TCS to select ECU or SCU, you want SCU. Press and hold TCS and Reset for an additional 2 seconds. Scroll to code 84, press TCS and Reset for 2 seconds and successful reset will result in 00 displayed.

Cool. Thanks!

As I'm *never* going to attempt *any* repair on the bike, a repair manual would be a waste of moeny. :)

Ah! Very detailed explanation - thanks!

You say, "then turn ignition on..." Will I need to use the red key for this procedure or is the regular black key good enough?

Thanks for the help and advice!

You may need to manually reset the position of the preload drive motor, meaning, some disassembly.......
First, can you set the preload to zero preload, i.e, Solo? Try that.
Run the diagnostic 84 again, and see if successful, and 'fo' does not appear.

Do you have any other error codes shown in DiAG mode?

No videos I'm aware of....... you need a service manual. I don't have an ES, so you'd have to look at your bike to determine access to the DC motor, and if shock removal is required (big job). Note there are two motors, one is the stepper motor that controls damping, but the one you want is the DC motor that controls preload.
Were you able to do another reset?
