ECU Location

I am considering an Ivan's flash for my 2019 model.
Ivan's website shows the location of the ECU, behind the right side body panel, next to the battery (on his 2016 bike).
Not on mine.....
Before I start taking off all sorts of panels, can someone enlighten me as to the location on my 2019 model?

Thanks. I checked out the parts fiche as well. I looked before I asked. Next to the battery there is no ECU.......
I might have to take other panels off.
It's been awhile since I pulled it from my '15 and I do suffer from CRS but I don't believe you can really see it access it just from the battery area. (Once you get to it though you'll know it's there when looking at the battery.) I do believe to get it out you'll have to loosen that side panel some but it's doable. I think the hardest part might be getting the connector off in that tight a space but there might be a trick for that also. Spend some time using the search function here; I do recall other's posting about their efforts.

I just knew I read about it's removal somewhere lol. Linked thread on another forum (so it wasn't your search skills) was when the Gen III flash was rather new and answers some good questions. Post #135 might be on point for you.

Gen3+ has it up outboard of the battery, it's a fun job getting things unplugged.... I didn't, but if you had the side panel completely off, it was easier.....
FYI, if you're looking for the voltage regulator Gen3+, it's up under the panel behind the glove box...... no longer under the seat tray.

Got it. The hardest bit was getting the connectors off.

I took off the front inner panel, RHS inner panel, and a few of the RHS fairing panel bolts. Removed the battery. I then managed to slide the ECU out of its fittings.

My ECU has part # B96-8591A-40.

Oh, My! Why did Yamaha relocate those items up there?

But then left the battery up there?

Would it Not have made better sense to relocate the battery, to a more accessible location, since that is the device that requires so much attention?

I am an engineer, and even I have a hard time trying to figure out what my fellow engineers are sometimes thinking!! Maybe they don't ride?

Insert engineer joke........

"An Engineer and the Guillotine"

They were leading a priest, a drunkard and an engineer to the guillotine. They
asked the priest if he wanted to face up or down when he met his fate. The
priest said that he would like to face up so he would be looking towards heaven
when he died. They raised the blade of the guillotine, released it, it came
speeding down and suddenly stopped just inches from his neck. The authorities
took this as divine intervention and released the priest.

Next the drunkard came to the guillotine. He also decided to die face up hoping
that he would be as fortunate as the priest. They raised the blade of the
guillotine, released it, it came speeding down and suddenly stopped just inches
from his neck. So they released the drunkard as well.

The engineer was next. He too decided to die facing up. They slowly raised the
blade of the guillotine, when suddenly the engineer said, "Hey, I see what your
problem is."

There's a couple of things I like about the flash (i.e. throttle on delay after coasting) but having to use premium fuel makes me hit the brakes
I believe that Ivan recommends 89 Octane, not Premium fuel, after you have him modify your ECU.

Hi all,

I love reading the updates from the weekly forum email. Rarely do I miss catching up almost all of the threads. I'm "here" a lot, though I don't post much. The knowledge base represented here is amazing. I don't post much because I don't feel I have much to contribute. Thanks for you all and your posts!

I've seen a lot about Ivan's flash, but thought it was more for the Gen 1 and 2 FJR's. I have a 2015 and haven't considered this because I don't really know what it would do for me. I think my 2015 runs so well, that I wonder, what would be the benefit of flashing a Gen 3, 2015 FJR ECU? Would I even notice the difference? If so, in what way?

Thanks for the feedback. You all are an amazing group.

I also feel like my '015 does not need a flash. The only thing about it that intrigues me is the third driving mode. To those who have it how does the mode display on the dash? Might be nice to have something in between sport and touring.

As for benefits of an A model?... suspension upgrades are much easier. I changed the front springs for my weight and that alone was a big improvement. I think damping adjustments are good enough to not need new cartridges. I just threw a Nitron shock in the rear but have yet to put it thru it's paces to see the difference that makes.
