Evening all...

Just thought i'd say a quick Hi!

I've got an 03 plated FJR that i've had for about a month. It'll be used mainly for exploring Europe but also an an Escort bike (to escort cycle races, triathlons etc). You can see a site where we work at www.wneg.co.uk . On this note - anyone wanting to join this group (a UK group) - please send some info.

Amyway - I've been looking for a used FJR for ages (about 2 yrs) and ended up with a Blackbird which I kept for about 18mths and traded it in for my baby! It's locked up nice and snug at present with a stack of mods being fitted next week - these include front and rear LED flashers (amber), a small amount of chevron/battenburg livery, Autocom, CB, H/Grips and i've been VERY tempted by the Corbin Smuggler. If only it wasnt so expensive....

Anyway - Hi all !!!

Picked mine up on Saturday, so it's completely stock :p

Before buying, I did have a long list of farkles I wanted to do. Now that I've got it and done a couple of hundred miles, it's a bit shorter.
I have a left footpeg/disk brake lock to fit soon as I finda spanner.
Will get some crash bungs this week I think.
I am still considering heated grips. Haven't really needed them yet, but I can see they'd make riding a bit more comfortable some times.
Reasonably happy with the screen, not sure I'll ever get around to replacing it.
May get a top box.
Will definitely get a GPS when I am flush again, I hate getting lost in London.

Hi Taffy,

The WNEG stuff is interesting. As a ex-road racer (but still time-trialist) I have done quite a lot of escort work for road races in the Midlands. Initially on a K1100LT, and then on the FJR.

The FJR is good at pottering along and is very nimble for those situations when you need to get 300 yards up the road bloody quickly to shift/warn some driver or pedestrian that they are about to have a peleton descend on them.

The K11 scored well in that the so-called choke was in fact just a fast idle. With a bit of adjustment this was set so that the bike would chug along in 3rd at a steady 25mph without need for use of the throttle.

Presumably because I was an ex-racer and had some idea on where to position the bike etc I did find that I was getting an increasing number of requests for escort support and it started to ruin all my Sundays. So these days I only do my own club's events.

As an ex Cyclist and time trialist to. I was horrified to see the news yesterday in N wales. Presume they were on a sunday morning club run.

It's strange how things go , as met old cyclist friend the other day. He was well known in the SW of england for his time trialing. Big bastard & and gob shite , but good friend and riding partner. He has got into Motor bikes himself now.
So the next ride out we do , I should at long last be able to keep with him and even pass him. That will be a refreshing change.

Alman, as you say, horrified. My heart bleeds for the families. I guess it was a pure case of being in the wrong place at exactly the wrong moment in time. Five seconds earlier or five seconds later and they'd have simply witnessed a car skidding off the road. So, so sad.

It was absolutely horrific! A complete waste of life... anyway - this Sunday - everyone out cycling will be wearing a black armband in memory of the 4 that died. We have a small escort training session in S Wales - we'll do our bit to support as well.

My bike is almost finished now - it has more lights than a Christmas tree!
If anyone is unsure as to why - then read above. Visibility makes sense - especially when you are trying to slow oncoming motorists down before they get frightended by 80-100 cyclists! And we all know where that (sadly) leads...

So - LED front and rear, Autocom with licenced system, CB system (for race radio and a converted pannier for first aid and defrib kit (never can be too sure).

All I gotta do now is right it!
