I've seen pictures of this mod before, but never understood what the tube bonded to the top side does. Is it a vent? Is there just that one zerk fitting to grease all 3 pivots?
The two upper pivot holes are greased thru zerks there are two zerks total. The tube is YES a vent for the upper to be able to purge grease as you grease it that way you know when it is full. The lower or middle is not vented as you can see when it has enough grease. The lower must be greased as usual.Hope that is a good explanation .

Mike,

You could also buy a used relay arm from Fleabay or similar. Have it rebuilt/upgraded with Zerks, and just swap in the good one for the old one, when maintenance comes due. Snowflake (on an FJR forum) did one for me, and he does good work. He replaces any bad bearings as needed, but the final bill will be righteous. Much easier to maintain the relay arm, with Zerk fittings.

Don't understand how that works. The bearings do not spin, just move a bit with the suspension, so how does the grease get around the bearings ?
The grease would need to be forced between the spacers and the bearings, which would take a great amount of force, but with the vent thingy that is where the grease will go.
The only way to grease those bearings is to remove the spacers, grease the needles and then put the spacers back, but when the spacer is put back most of the grease is pushed out.
The difficult one is protected by the swingarm, it was greased in the factory and as it is protected from all the road muck it will last for many thousands of miles, just disconnect the others and swing it to make sure it is free.
Mountains and molehills !
Russ Holden does significant work to the bushings by putting slits in to allow the grease to the needle bearings, and one of the reasons it costs $$. But keep in mind, the whole idea of grease is to keep the water out and the bearings will be fine.

So, what kinda money are talking about for this mod ?
You'd have to ask Russ for current price, but I remember it being a coupla hunnert.
