for those riding down to Casino with us...see you at 9am at the Yamanto McDonalds. Our plan is to leave soon after 9am and meet Peterpan at Rathdowney. From there we'll cross the border ranges and ride to Casino. Hopefully we'll get there in time to ride to Tenterfield in the afternoon.

David...would you please wait for us mate? I know a few of us are keen to join you and the others. The GPS says it's about 220Km's from Ippy to Casino....should do it in about 3 hrs (plenty of twisties on the way).

See you all there when the South meets the North for SoO '08.

My number is 0411260990.

Hi All,

A great shame I could not continue on the ride today after I lost you all... Not a mean feat considering how bkles there were.. I was waiting for Wayne and his partner (sorry I am a shocker for names) seen you all hit the roundabout and that was the last I saw of you all.. We got caught at the roundabout in traffic...

So I am looking along the straight stretches sitting on 110 and thinking to my self geez ya must be hightailing it... Got to Lismore and thought it was time to consult the map.. It had just started to rain... It was there I found out Wayne & partner were just going for a short ride...

Looking at map, tyring to find a road sign that I could recognise on the map.. Hmmm... So I continued on what I thought the right road was.. More pelting rain.. yay... Eventually come out on the coast onto the pacific highway.. Hmmmm... This can't be right...

So I stopped once more to assess the map.. Contiune up the highway and try and get to the coffee spot marked on the map or go inland and try and find the right road.. Hmmm more rain,..... I decided the later, and follow the signs to Mullimbimby.. Stop to get a drink and ask locals where the &^@#&@^ am I.. And can I get across to the 'proper' route... Yeh go down that way, follow the signs, blah blah blah...

I head off once more, not bad roads if it was dry, however it was pouring even worse now... No wet weather pants.. Hmmm... By this stage my throat was killing me, my bum was sore, and I could no longer see the mountains, too much fog and rain...

See a sign to Lismore.. 54KM.. hmmm.. Cut my losses and head back I start to think.. Some amazing counrty, the roads are very wet and windy, not a good combo as I am still getting used to the new tyres... Finally get to some decent road and the rain eases..

So I wayed up my options... Go back to the motel and wait for 4-5 hrs and do nothing or try and get back and bale out of my room and hopefully not get charged... I went with option 2... By this stgae I could hardly talk, the motel manager must have felt sorry for me and did not charge me for tonight..

Just as I am leaving I run into Wayne and partner (so sorry !!) and let them know I was out of there... As I hit Kyogle on the return leg the heavy rain starts again... good call I thought.. Missed constable plod by seconds, he just turned around in front of me, I tapped the brakes and was just under a 100 as we passed each other.. Decided not too push my luck after that...

I am pretty sure I seen Peter as I was coming out of roadworks near Rathdowney... Sorry I didn't stop mate...

Anyway, it was great to catch up with you all yesterday, thanks for the organising David

And apologies for the poor quality of the photos... When I changed lenses in the rush to egt the photos I di dnot up my shutter speed, I am surprsed they turned out at all !! Here is a link to them :

Yes Atlas you did pass me near the road works & Mr police man was probably hoping i was going to be his next victim as i had been following for awhile ( you should have seen his exit from the highway ,straight off the sholder right before the side road he was coming out of when you meet him)thought he was trying to get me to think he was turning off or around ,guess he did , but i rode quietly for the next ten mins .

Anyway Lois & i had a top weekend & really enjoyed meeting everyone & catching up with fimilar faces as well .

Hope everyone's ride home was safe & uneventfull

SOO 08 Riders,
Hello to all. Lou and I got home safe and sound. We stayed off the dirt roads this time  Thanks to all for a great weekend! I may turn Lou into a "biker chick" eventually! We both had a great time. Nice to meet you all and look forward to riding with you in the future. A special thanks to David for all his efforts. See you all soon and keep the shiny side up.

Hi Everyone - thanks for a great weekend. Highlights - many, but it wouldn't happen and wouldn't be fun unless guys and girls made it that way. It's great riding and 'sharing wisdom' after the rides. Some great riding, and very fun pace, on some great roads. And we even managed to avoid the showers while I was leading :p

The guys from Sydney arrived Thursday, so they were well rested when the Qld contingent arrived lunch-time Friday (except Swannie, who was finding roads that probably don't even officially exist). Did a quick blast up to Tenterfield and back, and people soon realised why I love that 130k's of road. This taken by pillion-cam:

The coffee shop we found couldn't believe their luck to double their Friday sales just like that (some guys hadn't had time for lunch before we left Casino). Friday dinner was at the local hotel 'test-driven the night before by Karl, Shoey and Wayne. Turned out to be so good we were back there on Saturday too.

Friday evening saw the ceremonial 'handing out of the shirts':

And then Saturday up early for breakfast in the sun:

and the Maccas Courier taking back breakfast in bed for the love of his life (well, I think that is what he said). It was only 2 blocks from the motel:

Then the lineup for the photo.

From left to right: Karl, Rod, Poida, Rico, Peterpan, Shoey, Swannie, David1300, Wayne, Moose (taking piccie - Atlas; joined us later - Phil; missing as he could only make Friday - Glen):

and the girls with their partners bikes (from left: Jodie, Lois, Lou, Zea and Susan):

And the girls with Jodie's Kawasaki:

To allow Jodie to ride along on Saturday we had to make allowances for and call it an orange 'I want to be a FJR when I grow up':

Then we headed out. Some riders were being mindful of their pillions needs (great move, guys - always do what you can to keep them happy) so they were doing a shorter ride, and we even lost someone at the first roundabout 2 blocks from the start :? Anyway, at the first regroup:

Then a leg stretch and appropriate sign:

And the 'orange Yammy':

At the fuel stop I managed a quick test ride. So much fun I nearly hid it around the corner, and was going to walk back saying I was mugged by some bikie-types and it's gone (for me to collect later):

But there was something going on. Shoey, does the term 'Swap and Go' have any significance, and why was Phil thinking, 'Mate, of all the bikes you could put your topbox on, why choose the black one'?

And then we had a great blast accross to Boonah for lunch. Another pic courtesy of 'pillion cam':

Some people enjoyed lunch so much at Flavours Cafe they went back there for breafast the next day - Moose

After lunch a lovely ride out to Lake Moogerah, and some country backroads, before a leg-stretch overlooking Mt Barney:

Do these guys have the same Barber?

David and Zea

Zea and Phil

And then another hugely fun bit of road, this time up the Mt Lindesay highway and down the other side, to Kyogle:

A full days riding, but everyone came home with a smile. Dinner that night was at the same hotel. Poida, pity you didn't pop in just to check (I didn't have any contact details to call you), and Atlas was nursing his sore throat, but the rest had a great dinner to round off a great weekend:

There are many, many piccies, and many 'true' stories, but they can come a bit later.

Thanks again, everyone - that was fun. You'll know when the next one is on

got home tired but elated

Great pictures, thanks David. i've got a few to share. not sure how to post them on this site. Instructions?
i decided to be daring and took the Grafton - Armidale route. it was fantastic! i bounded along and found myself in Armidale by 11am. Then the bit of highway down Uralla (20ks) at 100kph was too much for me to bear. The pertrol station girl told me that the New England is the most policed highway in NSW.
With all of this in my mind, i decided to head for Walcha, and thence the trip down to Gloucestor! it was magnificent. So all in all, i've had a great trip home, and a marvellous stay in Casino. Thanks, everybody. i had a wonderful break. And i've kept your marvellous map, David.
Can't wait for next year!!

Thank you everyone for making this SoO excellent. A special thanks to David and Phill for all their hard work in organising this special time. Riding home via Lions road today just topped it off!

Hi Karl - Great to hear that you made it home safely. Thanks for you Sydneysiders making it all the way up here, and for your part in a great weekend (and thanks for the drinks :D )

Posting piccies these days is easy:
1 - resize them to about 200 to 300kb (I make mine 800x600 pixels, using Irfanview - if you have trouble resizing send me a PM or email)
2 - make sure you know where on your computer they are stored
3 - open Tinypic: http://tinypic.com/ and browse to the picture you want to upload
4 - once you have uploaded the picture. click on the second option down (IMG code for forums and messageboards). This automatically copies the code to your clipboard.
5 - just paste it in your post

If you don't manage to get this OK just email me and I'll give a fuller explanation.

On Saturday someone suggested that it would be a good idea to get a CD of all the piccies together, as that way everyone can get piccies that include themselves actually in the piccies, as opposed to being behind the lens. For example, Zea and I have got too many piccies of individual guys and girls to put on the website, but I am sure many of you would like to have them (and we have very pics of us together).

Here is the suggestion:
1 - copy the piccies you are happy to pass on in full resolution onto a CD
2 - Mail the CD to me (David) at PO Box 523 Nerang 4211 Qld together with $5 for CD costs and postage (together with your mailing address)
3 - if you don't have any piccies, but want a copy of the CD, just send $5 (together with your mailing address)
4 - I'll 'close' the CD on 18 April and mail them to everyone who has sent

Obviously there is an expectation that people don't misuse any piccies, and none of the piccies taken on the weekend should be used for commercial gain/purposes withou the full permission off everyone in the piccie. That would be betraying the trust of people who were just out making friends and having a good time.
