How do you fancy a ride in the morning, meet like-minded riders, have lunch, and then head home. Sounds good? OK, what if lunch is 500k's from home?

If it sounds like a good idea keep Saturday 17th June free, and have a look here: http://p220.ezboard.com/fgtr1000frm11.showMessage?topicID=23.topic

It is open to all, not just FJR owners.

I'll probably go via Casino, the Bruxner to Tenterfield. on through Bonshaw, Yetman and Warialda. If any FJR owner from SEQld is wanting to make this an IBA qualifying run (SS1600) let me know and I'll pass on any tips, or maybe even do it with you.

Interesting thought David. 690.27klms from my place, according to Travelmate, 9 1/2 hrs. Would certainly have to leave bright and early that morning. Perhaps somebody should try and get a group together to leave from Sydney. I might mention it to a few mates and see what response I get.

Jim, if you do that you may as well aim for an IBA certified SS1600k ride. Your return trip will be almost 1400k's, so an extra 200 should be easy. If you do think of doing this let me know, and I'll share my experience.

David I hope a few of your FJR guys can make it, would be great.

I am leaving at 4.30am. A few weeks back I left at 4am for the Moree Muster, got there at 10.10am. It's 610k each way for me.

I have a couple more big rides this year including the Border Run (SA/WA Border) so I will not be doing a 1600k day, plus how many certs does one person need

See you there if not before, looking forward to it.

Spoken to a few mates about doing the Moree ride from Sydney and the conclusion is that it won't be happening. We would have to leave down here about 2am to make Moree by 11am-12md. General concensus is that there would be to much fog and mist and that there would be to much of a risk associated with our 'skippy' type friends impeding our progress. You guys havea a good ride.

I have to be home by 6pm, so if I do go, I will leave home around 5am, get there around 11, quick lunch and leave for home at 12. I'll only confirm on Thursday or Friday if I am going.

OK, it looks like my 5am departure is a happening thing. Another Ulyssian is leaving from the Shell/BP??? servo on the Gateway (I think the one near the Nudgee offramp) also at 5. I will stop at Warwick for fuel/breakfast (Maccas) probably around 7am.

JWM, I can understand your position, but fortunately I hit the highway 3 minutes from home, and we don't have a fog issue. Hope to catch up another time.

Looking forward in catching up with you, actually I probably will if you are stopping for brekkie :crylarf:

We have a varied group now, ST3s Duc coming from Coffs, VFR800, GL1800 wing, ZX10 etc etc

I am not running my aux fuel tank so I will top up at Warwick, I have a 400-420 stock range (550-600 with aux)

Remember I'm on the black FJR - the only way you'll catch me is leave ahead of me, and hide around a corner.

Seriously though, I hope we do meet up at Warwick. I always fill at the servo adjacent to Maccas, on the right as you go through town. And as I don't plan tp meet too many new friends like these  I should be quite catchable.

Left home 5:15am - 577k's there, and 520k's back home. Temp at home was a balmy 7C, but going through Warwick it dropped to about -2C. Some places we went through the temps were down to -4C. Not my regular riding temps.

I met up with 3 guys on riding a VFR800, ZX10, ZX9, and linked them - a bit of a mistake. Riding with them reminded me why I don't usually ride with guys on sportsbikes - they needed to stop for 20 min every hour and a half to stretch and flex arms, legs, whatever. At least they could keep pace, except on the bumpy bits  Total stops on the way there - 2 hrs - on the way back (riding alone) 20mins, including taking piccies of the sunset. It was great meeting new people with similar interests, though.

Sunrise

Stopped for a piccie while waiting for the ZX9 to catch up:

Yes, those are cows on the road up ahead - just one of the hazards out west

Sunset

Passed 4 cruisers at different times, but didn't stop to discuss any donations to the policemans ball. Rather fortunate, as I did have to hustle coming home.

Great pics as usual David. We have been getting some very cold mornings here in Perth as well, but beautiful, sunny and warm days. Great for riding, but bad for the farmers, we should be getting rain. :(

David to let you know the pace of the sports riders. I rounded them up just along the Logan Motorway before the first toll heading west (after I passed the 3 GoldWings) They followed me for a while but eventually I lost them. When it got really cold not far before Inglewood I pulled over to get a pic as they went by, I later caught up to and passed them again and then did a stop for then and the wingers to get warm (they were rather cold at -5c) But the point is they did the ride and covered the distance plus enjoyed the heck out of themsleves, two of them are talking about doing a IBA ride and ceratinly doing another FarRide.

To give you some times to base where you are I were, you must have caught them at fuel stop. I left home Cooroy at 4am and went over the Gateway bridge at 5.15am, got to Col Thomas Motorcycles at 10.35am. Had a faster run home for the 630k at 5hrs 55mins.

Full details here http://www.farriders.com

Lightened this one up.

Re-reading what I said maybe it came accross as a bit harsh on the guys - it was good riding with them, and they rode fine - added to which it was the first logn ride for one of them, and they had the 'benefits' of the full wind chill factor when the temps were between -4 and just above freezing. Thinking about it, any feeling person would had to stop and stretch, and try and warm up a little. I guess when I am riding to a destination (not riding to stop that often) I get a bit task focussed. Yes, they enjoyed the experience, and that's great. Davo, my 520k's home was 100k's and an hour 15 less than yours. Time to have a shower and still get out the front door by 7pm for our evening out.

Same here, thats why I ride alone and if someone wants to run with me its up to them to keep at my pace. Its always been the way for me even in my twenties on driving trips, about 1-3am I tended to lose most of those that insisted on us driving together. You cover the big miles by being consistant. As you know on my way to Froe I did 2464k in 23hrs 22mins and a total Bris to Freo in 45hrs 22mins, its consistant pace and being on the ball.

btw I gave you access to priv area FarRiders, you must be logged into ezboard

Perhaps there is market for heated grips in Qld after all?
It sounds like you guys had a good, safe, uneventful ride.
