Hi All
Last night I accidentally switched on the ignition of my FJR
while it was connected to my Optimate charger. I shut the
switch off within a few seconds, disconnected the charger
and rechecked starting, lighting etc. no blown fuses and
everything seems to be OK. My question is would any
damage have been caused especially to the ECU or anything
else for that matter.

Any comments greatly appreciated.
THANKS
Regards
John G.

I doubt that anything on the bike would have been damaged, but if you had actually tried to start the bike, you may have damaged the Optimate, depending on how good the charger's self protection circuits are, or if it has any at all. (I don't know)

No, you won't have damaged anything.

The charger is connected to the battery ONLY and feeding that - I have done this myself a couple of times.

relay

I have my accessory relay doing double duty. with the (extra) NC terminal used to connect the charger wire.
That way , as soon as the ignition key is turned on, the charger is disconnected.
