Salut,

Hello everybody, Greetz from Poland. Last autumn I bought jade '04 model. Within coming days I will try to put some photos and supplement my profile. Last bike - TDM 850 '98. Reason for change - more power, more elasticity, more comfortable 8)

My problem is a destroyed spring device for original Yamaha side case (metal pin broke out, mechanism housing opened out and spring unbent). Our local Yamaha dealer is not able to help me. They even do not know who produce this cases for them :x

I would be pleased if you could help me to find reliable e-shop, shop, dealer etc.

Hi Zdrav, are you talking about the "reel" that keeps the lid level when opened?

It could be that this part isn´t available as a spare. You better ask this forum if sombody has a crashed/smashed side case. You could ask for the "reel" part to be sold to you for a very ridicolos amount of money:) It is small enough to be mailed in an envelope. Besides, they don´t have any use for the lid anyway.

Hello crash gang, where are you... Knock on wood now:lol:

Another alternative is to locate a fine mechanic (watch maker or equivalent) that could repair the spring loaded reel for you. These old school guys can repair almost everything.

This question has been asked before on the old forum, but IIRC noone ever got a satifactory answer other than repairing the reel.

Think Finn is right about spares for the side cases. In 2000/2001 Yamaha listed the lids as an item so you could replace just them if you had an accident, and not have to replace the case, but if even a large piece like that is no longer available, I'm pretty sure you are on your own with this one :(

Hi,

This one is from the US fjr owners site(http://pub18.ezboard.com/bfjr1300ownersassociation). It seems that this guy has a something up your alley..:

"
I have a left luggage cover from a 2005 FJR complete with the rubber strip. I planned to use it to replace a badly scratched cover on my 2004 FJR, but came across a complete 2004 left case with the correct paint. The cover got to me with a small piece broken on the center of the top lip, about an inch long by 1 half inch wide, smooth crescent shaped. Using plastic epoxy, I cemented a very thin piece of plastic to the lid underside, epoxyed the chip onto it in the original space from which it came, the applied a light touch of bondo and sanded it. I think it is very strong, and would be unnoticeble after repainting. I would be happy to email a couple of pictures, before and after if you wish.

I was ready to have it painted before I came across the complete case. (I still have the left case box with the damaged lid on it as well)

Worth a try?!
