Key code 2007

5901 Views 15 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Oldjeep
Any way to get the key code off the bike? On suzuki's they stamp it a number of locations. I got 3 keys with the bike, 1 oem that works but is well worn and a little twisted and 2 copies which must have been for a different bike - not even close in terms of the cut.
I'd prefer to get some new ones cut by code rather than copied.

So the best I could find is a key decoder pick for Yamaha locks. There are 7 positions but only 4 cut depths. If you scan your key and do some photoshop work to overlay this grid on your key, you can line up the cuts and figure out the code. Now whether or not you can find a locksmith that has a Yamaha code cutter is a different story. This is called a Lishi YH35R Key Decoder and you can pick them up for about $30 off eBay.

There is a shop on ebay that cuts mc keys by code, have used them in the past. That decoder should get me what I need to know. Thanks!

I've seen the "lock picking lawyer" (youtube) use something very similar (they're all lock brand specific)
I think I'll go the scan/measure route and see what I come up with. Knowing the 7/4 is the important part. I would have just taken apart one of the pannier locks and read the numbers off the plates but they only use 5 plates - so those are ignoring a couple of the positions.

In the ancient past (my old FJ1200), I went to a nearby Yamaha dealer with the VIN from my bike (I think I might have even brought the title with me) and they were able to cut a key from that. I don't think I imagined that!

Let me know how it works out for you. And if it does, let me know where you got the key from and I'll probably order a few, too. I'm in the same boat. I got one OEM key from the previous owner and the silver on the sides has worn off to show the brass underneath and it's warped.

I'd be curious to know how much that cost these days. Shouldn't cost much because everything is digital now, but dealers gotta make money.
I went out after work to try to get a key cut from the original, just so I have some sort of spare. The 3 hardware stores didn't have a blank. So I went to the small Yamaha dealer a couple towns over. They said that they could not get me the code but did have a Ilco blank they could cut. The key works better than the original. Still will try to figure out the code, but for now I at least have a spare.

If your key is bent or twisted, slip it between a couple pieces of flat bar and squeeze it in your bench vise........

I've made a Photoshop PSD file for decoding your Yamaha key in case you want to order a new key instead of making a copy of a copy of a copy. This is for the YH35R keyway (YM63 if you're ordering the Ilco key). There is an example key in there (not my key or anybody else's) and some quick instructions on how to line up your key image and decode it. Your key has 7 positions that are read from the large end of the key to the tip. Example image attached. Yes you need Photoshop and you need to know how to use it. If you don't have photoshop, take a decent picture of your key as parallel to the key as you can and send it to me in a private message and I can decode it and send it back to you.

keys4urride.com can cut keys to code - if you have the code. It's a little more pricey than having keys dupped at the hardware store, but it gives you an original key instead of a copy. And the key blanks are harder (and don't bend as easily) than Yamaha's.

Yamaha Motorcycle Keys Cut to Code Key💥BEFORE BUYING READ ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS | eBay

I've gotten keys from him for other bikes in the past. Quick ship and winds up being $15 if you buy just one
Ebay key showed up today. Works perfectly.

Did you use decoder form sentry07 . I decoded my key with it and contacted the eBay guy, but he responded to me that my bike will have a key code between A7001-A8500. So I guess this route didn't work for me. Also called a local dealer who told me they can not obtain key code by VIN number. However, they directed me to a company called Champion Keys (www.championkeys.com). somewhere in California. Just spoke to Mario who asked me to send detailed photos of the bent key and said their software can cut a new key. It should be here in a week or so. I will keep you posted.if it worked.
I emailed the ebay guy the picture of the key/decoded. Never got a real key number but he was able to cut it from the picture/grid
