Happy February.
It will be time for a new front tire this Spring.
My 10' FJR came with a Pilot road 5 on the front 120/60 and a Pilot Power on the rear. A little odd combo.
I know the 120/70 should be the correct one.
Is the GT worth the money if I'm not going to go 2 up and load it up?
Does the GT change the turn in and front end tracking?
Thank you in advance.

To me- exclusively solo, 190 lbs and 40-50 extra pounds for trips- no, the extra cost of the GT isn't worth it. Pilot Power may seem weird but there are different Pilot Powers for different bikes. I regularly run Pilot Power 2CT front and rear.

How much life is left in the rear? I would buy a front that you eventually want to pair up with a new rear. That's if you're thinking of the PR5 again. I know they don't have to match but I've always swapped out tires in pairs, that's just the way I think.

And I prefer the GT or A-Spec, built for heavier bikes. You're gonna get a dozen different answers. A certain someone will be along soon to tell you PR3's are the best tires for the FJR.

And another soon behind praising the Dunlop Roadsmarts as the "best ever". 😁

I can say from my previous 07 to current '13, the only difference I could tell between GT and standard ( both Mich and Bridges ) solo or 2 up, was the sidewall stiffness and 'rasslin effort during installation and removal. To ME, no difference could noticed over the tens of thousands of miles on each version.
As always YMMV

FOR ME, where I live and ride, the Pilot Road series- PR2, PR4 and PR5- I list among the tires to be avoided. In the past I always thought I must be missing something b/c everyone seems to love them but TO ME they are crap tires. There are much better choices out there FOR ME..

I prefer the feel of PR or R tires. I don’t need GT tires, but I prefer the feel and handling of the GT versions.

Roadsmarts don't come in a GT, sidewalls are stiffer. Bridgestones are stiff sidewall tires. Michelins are quite soft sidewalls, I'd go GT with the rear. Not a fan of the PR4 front.

I know it's all very confusing. Going from a 400 lb. SV 650, the FJR does not Flick. A stiffer front side wall will change front end stability. I must except the FJR is a different Animal! I don't put 20k a year on my cycles, but that needs to change.
After riding the FJR, I'm definitely spoiled (full Fairing, heated grips and Big Boys Power).
PR6 will probably be my next best friend....

I kind of chuckle when everybody wants to have the latest and greatest. I learned that's not always what's best long ago. And I reaffirmed my belief on the FJR when I tried the Angel GT2. I found I didn't like it quite as much as the original Angel GT. Stick with what works for you.

I put Pilot 6's GT's on it this time. My wife rides with me more times than not. I can't really tell much, if any difference between the GT or Non-GT.

Generally if she isn't with me, I take a different bike.

Thanks Spooks. I will go with the pr5 gt. Everyone has a favorite tried and true tire. Have PR 4's on my SV and like them allot. Putting the correct 120/70 back on should make a big difference as well.

Had GT 2 strange tire wear, had a GT, bad feeling on the handlebar in the corner. Now I drive ST and change them at 3700 miles.. Average tire and Im happy... I also had a Rosso 3 and it didn't last long :)

I have found that each version of PR's get better and better. I have used PR 2 and 4 on my prior ride and 5GT and 6GT on my FJR. Took a new set of PR 6 GT on a trip down through central US to Texas last year. They performed great. I don't ride interstates. All secondary roads. The whole series of PR's have been really excellent in wet conditions. Very confidence inspiring. Throwing a new set of 6GT on once the winter is gone in the Great White North in prep to trip to NC.
