OK all you seasoned Sat Nav riders, have purchased a Garmin Streetpilot 3 for use in the car and bike.

Mounting it on a bike , there seems to be a world of mounts, so any suggestions, what have you tried and found that works.

On 'Bikerjohnny' site the mirror stem mount looks neat and secure and is on the free hand side should you need to press any buttons. Has any one used this and does it foul on full right hand lock with the screen?

The stem mount also looks neat that fastens in the middle of the yoke, again anyone tried it.

All suggestion gratefully received.

I have the Quest fitted by a ram mount, unobtrusive fairly cheap and excellent quality... fits to the left, tried the stem mount but you cover your clocks and it gets awkward with a tank bag...

I liked mine on the left also, for the same reasons. RAM hardware in the vacant left mirror mount. Left hand operates the buttons anyway, with no cruise control. Then with the RAM arm, you can choose a variety of positions and angles.

Thanks rabbit, that stem mount looks really neat, the Touratech mount although expensive is well made (a friend Hogan 2085 on this site has one) and with that stem mount it is secure, well as it can be, where the ram mounts can be undone easily.

Its looking like the stem or mirror mount from Biker johnny so far.

With the stem stand you need a big socket and needs to be torqued down.

I can't remember the size - there are two different sizes - up to 2002 and 2003 on.

Make sure you protect the nut with something when you tighten, or it will damage it (I forgot - bugger......)

Thanks all for the input.

I will be ordering the stem mount and touretech locking mount.

Rabbit-- the headset is already ordered off E-Bay as you have shown and hard wire kit, all I need to do now is assemble the whole lot when it arrives and work out how to use the Garmin, have been playing today with it and it got me to work!!, trouble is the car knows its way anyway

Thanks again

Teejay - you want to put it to the test, then visit the ring road around Paris or similar...I could have sworn the damn thing started talking faster as the junctions were only 10 yards apart..Lmao.
Enjoy - you'll never leave home without it when you suss it out.

BTW, the reason why I got a Powerlet adapter was threefold:

Power the Garmin

Got an adapter/lead to accept my Optimate = easy plug in for charging

Got an adapter/lead to charge my mobile phone. (Yeah, I can't charge the mobile and use the Garmin at the same time but at least it gives me an option)

Don't know what year bike you have but if you need the socket size please ask.

stef, have you a link for the ram mount. I too have a Quest and wondered how to mount it. My spare "hole" on the left is already taken up by the bar heaters and I'm not keen on the centre socket approch.

Did like the pics posted by afterburn, but there's no reference to them, so no idea what the mount is
