2015 FJR A model

Bought this bike yesterday. Today I drained about .3/QT engine oil to full mark, set suspension, tire pressures, bolts that matter are tight, etc. Then I ran mine like others on the center stand and now have the check engine light. Will ride it today for a bit to see if I can get it to magically disappear.

If not, a standard OBD reader will work? Where is the connector located?

I will be ordering a Yamaha service manual very soon.

Thank

The 2015 doesn't have OBD........ Your check engine light should go out when you go normally riding, as will the ABS light. You may have a stored code related to the wheel sensors, which is OK. When you get your service manual, you can learn all about the codes and how to clear them.

Back from 160 mile ride. Sure enough RaYzermann check engine went out shortly after I left my driveway. OK on no OBD. Thanks!

Junk, it is a Red bike problem that includes the 07’s (the first fastest color and just a tad slower than the14’s) and is caused the incredible speed capability, kinda like the speed and friction of a rocket re-entering the atmosphere,,,,, there’s a persistent rumor that Yamaha had to consult with nasa on how to deal with all this so the absolute fastest color red bikes didn’t just vaporize on full throttle,,,,,,,,,, absolutely true,,,,,,, I swear!!!!

the rumor also includes the story that the canadien government was concerned with the safety of their citizens not being able to deal with all that power so required Yamaha to paint their versions in candy cow pie brown just to slow them down,,,absolutely true,,,, I swear

Same problem. Check engine light came on near the end of a short ride. Turned bike off and restarted it, took it for a short ride (20mi.) and light is still on. Seems to be running great. I have a 2016 FJR - A. It has been put away for the winter now but in the spring I may have to take it to the nearest dealer, 52 miles away.

Wow again, Steve. Your knowledge is unsurpassed for sure, but I obviously must put together a comprehensive colour chart ranked by speeds... and you know where I will place the Lipstick Pink one.....

We would need to know what the stored fault codes are to diagnose further........ a check engine light does not necessarily mean anything bad, but points to some item needing attention.

To save a trip and expense at the dealer, you should get an OBD reader and the OBD adapter harness so you can read all the stored diagnostic codes yourself and even clear them.

2016 shipped with a firmware bug with respect to the ignition switch. Is possible to turn the key to 11:00 and see the dash do its boot dance, but the starter button does nothing but set the CEL. Maybe you don't remember the starter not working? Anyway, if it didn't work once when you pushed the button then this is for certain what your problem is.

Wiggle the ignition key and get it properly clicked to 12:00 and bike starts but CEL has to be cleared with the scan tool.

Dealer should clear the CEL and update firmware for free.

Ray, I know you would begrudedly put the 2014 red at the very top of the speed by color chart, it really speaks to your character that you would do that ,,,,,,, 😜😜👌🏻
