Yeah mine did too. I was going to use the clamp that came with it so there would be a ram ball on the unit and the other on the heli plate with the clamp between.

I'll be in my box o'parts tomorrow mounting it up. I think I have an extra in there I could drop in the mail for you. I'll let you know.

Thanks Whooska. I ordered one from cycle gear. Dumped my box o parts out looking for one yesterday that I thought I had. I stopped on my way home today.

My bike is still under the cover but where are you guys tapping power from? Right now I just have a lead straight from the battery for my phone. Is the unit too big to use a Ram mount/ball off the left handle bar?
I ran the power wire to my fuse block.

Mounted it up today. Pics make it look humongous because it sits a couple of inches closer to the rider than the gauges. But have not yet adjusted it in a test ride.

OK so I just happen to be on Amazon and the Carpuride units went on flash sale. The 7 inch is $229 (-50) and the 5 inch is $199. I opted for the 5 inch as the 7 seems too big for my tastes, it's too "in your face". And my Zumo 550 has a 3 1/2 inch screen which I had no issues with so a 5 inch screen will be a nice upgrade.

I'll report back after I check it out.
I have the 7". It sits nicely between bars on a techmount ball adapter. The usb adapter in the 12V port did not work for me so I have it hardwired to the battery. I have both a apple and android phone but so far have only used android. Works good enough for me wearing earbuds.

That ^ is show I will mount it.

I used the handle bar bracket that it came with to go around the heli base plate which will work until the threaded ram ball arrives on Monday. Took me a minute to pair it due to I left the helmet paired with the phone. I've only used maps and my phone prior to this so I'm sure I can make this work. Saturday will be a test for how much phone battery is used but I have a small battery to recharge my phone if needed.

The ram ball should move it back about 2".

Gave it a good test today. Left home at 9am and phone was at 93% full. Activated android auto on the unit and turned the helmet on. I really don't listen to music and don't want to answer calls while riding so after 1 hour 15 I met up with Big Ogre and shut the helmet off and just left the maps on. Took about 10 pics and texted wifey 3 or 4 times but the rest it stayed on and connected. Left the phone in the side bag. Phone went dead at 5:15 pm so while it drained faster than a phone not in use, it didn't kill it right away. I did bring a battery pack that I could have plugged the phone into or ran it off the usb in the "glove box" but didn't. Had 1 brief moment with no signal which was while we were at the restaurant so downloading offline maps would be useful. The on/off button was not useable with my gloves. After one stop I forgot to turn it on and gave up trying until stopped at a red light. Was able to see the screen in bright sunlight most of the time. It'll be better when I get the mount situated.

Over all for $200ish I feel it is well worth it. If I were embarking on cross country journey I would probably opt for a dedicated gps.

Howdy all. I picked up the 7" carpuride also a couple weeks ago. I also run a zumo xt. Like many of us here, we like to explore. We used to do it with maps taped to our tanks. Ideally, thats what I want but an electronic version that I can reference at a glance to see if a road is going in the greater, general direction of a multi day ride. The Zumo XT screen isn't large enough to achieve that. But I've been running them both for right now as I think testing will take awhile. The carpuride displays far greater roads with names than my Zumo XT, and that is the primary reason for the purchase. I run Sena comms and they work as they should. I'm still debugging music and siri but early stages yet lads. Early stages.

THanks for all the insights!

Hi Sefto;

I'm interested in upgrading from my Garmin Nuvo and have a couple of questions, if you don't mind.

There seems to be more than one carpuride with a 7 inch screen. Which model did you purchase? Are you connecting it to an Apple or an Android phone? Which model of phone are you using? What mapping app on your phone, displayed on the carpuride screen, displays far greater roads with names than your Zumo XT?

Thanks in advance.
Dave

Hey Bozo - it’s a Carpuride W702 Wireless Portable Dual Bluetooth Waterproof IP67 Motorcycle Stereo. I’ve currently connected it to an iPhone 11 with latest 17.4 iOS. I bought it specifically for Waze maps so I’m able to better comply when officers need us slowed down in specific areas. To that end it performs well.

I also have a gorilla glass military spec Kyocera DuraForce running Android that won’t overheat or freeze. That is what I’ve been using as my primary, hardwired Waze monitor and it’s been perfect, albeit too small.

Hope that helps.

Still working on music playback. Remember, early stages.

Thanks Sefto, that's exactly the information that I was looking for. Time to go shopping!

As someone who grew up in the Chicago suburbs in the 70s, your forum name is cracking me up! What is the story?

Hey SkooterG, no story really.

I didn't realize the cultural significance of Bozo until I read your reply and googled "chicago 1975 bozo" and there I was, in all my glory. Just kidding. We didn't have WGN TV where I grew up so I didn't have Bozo as a childhood role model.

I adopted the screen name in the 1980s because I believe we need to laugh as much as possible and Bozo made people shake their head and smile. Looks like it's still working. 🤡

I haven't tried the Carpuride unit yet, but speaking with a someone last weekend who is running one it's has pretty much the same pros and cons as the Ottocast, which is also sold under other names all over the internet. I was using the Ottocast unit last year and I loved being able to easily switch between navigation and weather apps with a thick gloved hand, BUT the sound quality and volume was horrible from my phone through the CarPlay to my Sena. I would say about half of the volume capability was lost, and when the audio controls on the CarPlay were turned up the sound quality went all to hell. Phone calls were frustrating at best and listening to music, audiobooks, or podcasts was nothing short of terrible at highway speeds. Then it crapped out on me on Day 3 of the Iron Butt Rally, so I paired my iPhone back directly to my Sena and continued on with the apps on the phone and my Garmins.

In doing my research this was reported often. Apparently the is a certain pairing order to do to eliminate the reduced sound quality. You may have to have your phone forget your Sena or something like that. But the work around is documented on Youtube.

It's the Iron Butt Rally. Everything is supposed to go to Hell. That evil Rally Mistress is there to ensure it does!
