Dlounsbury Thank you FJR Owners group!!

I picked up my new to me, 2007 Black Cherry yesterday and as soon as I got it home, I checked the saddle bag locks. Low and behold, one missing screw on each of the side bags and the two in the top case were less than finger tight.

A trip to the hardware store and replaced all six and used blue loctite during the process.

Having been 'lurking' for a bit on the site I have created a bit of a list which included the bag locks.

Again, thank you all for helping me prevent a bag drop which would have happened.

jjscsix Another thing I did as a backup was drilled a hole through the lower mount and the rubber piece that is slides down over then put a pin through it. It not going anywhere!

RaYzerman AS I mentioned in another thread, this has been discussed many many many times. The dealers are supposed to loctite them and don't. If you haven't checked yours, you should. Losing saddlebags and top boxes is kinda hard on the wallet.

klwhitacre I ended up fabbing a replacement for the little orange-tipped piece of steel. I don't like to buy parts that I don't need just to get one that I do need. It was a piece of cake, and the steel was under $4 at the local hardware store. A little vise time, some drilling, and cutting...good as new. Not surprisingly, I checked the lock in the other side case and found that neither screw:
A. Had a hint of thread locking compound on it.
B. Was even finger tight.
They were on their way out too. I'm bummed the dealership didn't check them, but not surprised. Thankfully my side case stayed shut without the lock, but it seems like its possible for them to pop open without the lock in place. Good riding all, take care.

spectreman W/the help of a small flathead screw driver, I got the screws out, loctited and replaced in under 2m. You don't need any T10 security torq handle. Save yourself the time & money.

I might suggest you only remove one screw at a time and/or use some painter's tape to hold the lock mechanism in place if you decide to remove both screws at once.

Easy peezy.

jjscsix Okay, one of us is going to feel really stupid...it might be me. What is a security torx? I never knew there was such a thing, assuming it’s any different than a non-security torx. I just googled it, and I find it but still don’t know what the difference is. I did check to see if mine were tight a while back. Now I don’t know if they are tight or not because I don’t know if I used a security torx bit.

Okay, I just read more. Something about a hole in it. So how did I mange to check mine without any special security bit? Trip to the garage is in order, but don’t have time now.

RaYzerman Needs to be a security Torx, with the hole for the pin in the recess... however, you can try to break that pin off..... screw is M3x10 if you want to replace them with something else.
