If you have altitude problems and Mama Yama won't give you a new CPU just buy the one I have on Ebay. I put an 08 cpu in mine and I KNOW mine had the upgraded CPU as I checked with Yamaha before I bought it. They are easy peasy to change over.

You could have it for 40.00 shipped if you wanted it.

I know this is old, but why did you put the 2008 ECU in? Was it an easy swap? I just got a 2007 and I have the altitude problem.
Thanks!

I put the 08 CPU in my 07 because I was trying to fix the on/off throttle problem that almost all 06 and 07 FJR's came with.

I knew that the problem was fixed, to some extent, on the 08 models, and I knew that MOST of the solution was in changing the ramp on the FI's. BUT, I had also heard that the FUEL MAP on the CPU might be different, or some other thing might have been changed in the CPU to alleviate the problem.

So I bought an 08 CPU on Ebay and installed it on my 07 and it worked fine, but DID NOT help with the on/off throttle problem.

The reason I put my 07 CPU back on {and subsequently sold the 08 one} was simple. I had done the Barbarian Mod on my FJR and changed the CO numbers when I was first purchased it, so I knew the original CO numbers on my 07 CPU. But I had no idea if anyone had changed the CO numbers in the 08 CPU and I had no original CO numbers for it. So I would never be able to intelligently adjust those nunbers in the future, and since both CPU's seemed to act the same there seemed to be no advantage to keeping the 08 CPU and some small advantage to going back to the original 07 one.

As far as changiong it, it's as simple as removing the side cover and undoing some screws if I remember right, very simple. I am almost positive any altitude problems had been fixed in the CPU by 08 so your problem should be solved. There are NO guarantee's of course.

The altitude fix was a safety recall and should still be honored by Yamaha

I would not ride the bike without the altitude fix....last thing you need is to pull out onto the road and end up stalled with cars coming at you!
Happened to me several times when my 07 was new.

See post 15, you can't get the altitude fix any longer.... best look for a later ECU, say '08 or '09. If you want to know if yours has the fix, call your friendly Yamaha dealer and ask them to punch in your VIN.......
The on/off throttle issue is something entirely different, it's due to the fuel cut feature of most FI systems. Lots of things have been tried, G2 throttle tubes, tube mods, Power Commanders.....

So here's your new deal... Ivan apparently is nearing completion of a Gen2 ECU flash... you could ask him about the altitude issue, and whether you'd be better off flashing an '08 ECU. Me, I'd buy Phil's ECU.

Yamaha won't help at all with the altitude problem.
I'm going to look into the '08 CPU swap.
Thanks for all the advice!
