Whats the right oil filter?

I do believe the dealer has mislead me. I bought a new oil filter, and noticed that it was quite a bit shorter than the stock one. When I questioned the dealer, he told me that Yamaha had changed the recommended filter. Still being cautious I got on Yamahas site, and sure enough, they have a new number. However, it does not match what I was sold, nor does it mention a 12 FJR 1300 on the back of the box. It does list several other motorcycles, ATV's and a few outboards. The number on the filter they sold me is #5GH-13440-50.

He's correct. Yamaha changed the recommended filter to the shorter version in 2014. Now all FJR recommended oil filters is the same smaller unit...I believe it is 2.5" vs. 3.5" in length.

I'm sorry Jalcol, but I'm going to have to report your mistrust to Yamaha Center. I'm sure they will be in touch.

going by the k&n chart, Yamaha did the same thing on the raider. I used the kn303 on mine...now I see that the newer fallout is kn204. The kn204 is also for the newer fjrs and many other bikes. Makes for easier inventory and more availability to have an almost universal filter.

Yep, after some research, I determined it was correct. Just made me a little unsure, when Yamaha's own site was not up to date. Thanks for the help guys.
