Oil filter

Hi all, I got rid of my ST 1300 this spring, and finally got my long lusted after FJR. Very happy. It's time for an oil change, and when I asked for a filter at our local (small, rural) dealership, he fudged around awhile, and I thought he was going to tell me he didn't have one. Then he comes up with a Yamaha filter, part # 5GH-13440-50, and tells me they are phasing out what is on the bike now, and replacing it with this one. Is that true, or is he BSing me to push the sale? What after market filters do you all recommend? Thanks for any and all oil related info.....much appreciated.

I just did my 1st oil/filter change over the weekend on my 2014A @ 659 miles. 5GH-13440-50 was on it from the factory. I replaced it with the same one.

Couldn't find any other stuff though I know it's here somewhere. Google this and you can come up with lots of it.

I have used the Bosch 3323 but didn't like the puke yellow color {silly, I know}

and the Purolator 14610 either the plain one or the Pure One expensive one depending on the state of my debit account.

FYI, Amazon has the Bosch 3323 in black for around $6.50. Great filter, fits the FJR perfectly:

The same filter also happens to fit my wife's Honda Pilot, which is nice bonus.

Yes, that is correct. Yours is an older FJR with the longer filter. The current model has a shorter filter and that is all that is going to be available from now on. Presumably the Yamaha engine is so finely machined that it does not need a big filter, or perhaps the new one is cheaper !

I had the same situation with my 2013. No idea what the part numbers were. But the filter that came on the bike was longer than the one I bought afterwards. I did manage to find a spreadsheet from Yamaha Europe. But don't bother looking for it, you've got the right filter.

The Purolator PL14610 is about as good as it gets and all I have ever used on my '05. The PL14612 is .5" shorter if that works/looks better on the latest gen. This is a good read if you have the time.
