Smile Oil type and filters

Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can buy oil and filter for an oil change and FD change out on my FJR1300 (2013). And also recommend the type and brand.
I don't want to have to wait for the expensive order from my stealership.
Thanks.

Your owners manual will provide you the specifications for the proper oil. You can get an appropriate oil at a Walmart or any auto parts joint. Expensive order? If your dealer does not stock an oil filter then change dealers. There are several other brands that will work and you will save a few bucks I suppose, but I use the OEM filter and buy 3 or 4 at a time.

I took my PC-1 Racing filter off my Versys and put it on my FJR. They share the same size filter. Picked up a Bosch 3300 to put on the Versys. Picked up the Bosch Filter and Lucas Brand FD oil at O'Reillys. They also had Mobil 1 10w40 Synthetic motorcycle oil.

Thank you. After a little confusion with the dealer and ordering a filter, I decided to look online and it seems they have filters for all bikes but the fjr. So, thanks for your help and I will look further into Bosch adn Lucas!

Oh God shoot me now!

Ok here we go...the manual recommends 10W40 and you can use any name brand oil and you're fine.

If you want to go full synthetic that's up to you.....unless you do a lot of high speed riding I don't think it's necessary, today's regular dino oils are excellent quality.

I wouldn't use a "semi" synth as they don't tell you how much synthetic oil is in there...probably a 95% dino oil, waste of money.

I would use a "JASO MA" rated (on the back of the jug/bottle) oil as these oils have extra protection from the shearing that our trannies do to the oil and are designed for motorcycle engines.

I run CASTROL JASO MA rated Motorcycle oil, 10W40.

Here's a few to get you started, there are literally dozens of oil filters that work properly for the FJR, I'm using the PC Racing FLO PCS1 permanent oil filters on all the bikes... Oh, as you've now discovered, staying out of the stealership at all costs is the best course of action, they're basically clueless...

Edited to add: Make it simple, Rotella T6 full synthetic 5W-40 oil and a Bosch 3323 filter, you should be able to find both at a local Walmart, Mobil 1 full synthetic 75W-90 gear lubricant LS in the final drive... change it all frequently and go riding, don't complicate it!

Right, I always use Castrol oil and OE filters in my motorcycles. I have a choice of either Power 1 4T 10w-40 which is semi synthetic and is JASO MA-2 API SJ and Power 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 which is fully synthetic and is JASO MA-2 API SL.

There is a price difference of just 2 on a 4 litre container so price would not be the deciding factor, just that I don't want to use fully synth if its no good for my bike. I'll be changing it yearly and covering less than 5,000 miles per year at most. I suspect that dealers only use semi synth anyway.

Castrol recommend the semi synth and I think I read somewhere that the fully synth can give clutch problems - is that right?

So, what do I do?

Woods, If you prefer to shop online and have delivered to your front door...

The K&N number for the 2013 is the KN-204

It was the KN-148 for older models, but the 2013 OEM unit is a shorter unit and K&N now lists the KN-204 for that year.

As far as oil goes, Castrol 4t , 10w40 - 6 bottles for $43.42
