AE Clutch fluid change problem

I used a Mity Vac to try to suck the old fluid out but the seal at the bleed valve was poor. May have introduced air.

Took off the slave cylinder and manually bled by hand. Several fills and bleeds later I'm not getting any air bubbles. So far so good.

Start the bike and get Shift code 26. After several key cycles and getting it started in neutral all seams fine but shift into 1st and the bike lunges forward and stalls (with front brake held firmly).

So I'm not getting any slippage of the clutch while in 1st gear at idle. Not much slippage anyway.

I guess I need to learn how to access the Clutch Bleed Port at the rear of the engine, and what to do to it.

Thanks for any and all assistance.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2007 AE 66k miles. 1st clutch fluid change - not too dirty, golden not black.

I have just consulted my hot off the press Haines manual and I am afraid that it states;
'Bleeding the system is a complex and precise procedure requiring the use of specialised equipment. Therefore all work should be carried out by a Yamaha dealer'

So probably not something you can do at home

I have the exact same issue, but after only doing an oil and filter change - code and behavior! Hope someone knows how to fix this! I have a mechanic friend who will bring his Mightyvac so we can bleed out all the fluid and replace with new to see it this solves the problem.

I went out a bought a MightyVac and did a clutch fluid change. The old fluid was medium dark and the now installed fluid is nice and golden! Buttoned it all up and started it in neutral, no codes! While on center stand, shifted into 1st gear and it would shift and displayed code SH_51! Repeated several times after letting engine warm up to see if it was just a dry clutch that needed to re-lubricate with the newly changed Rotella T6 oil - same outcome.

Darn, I thought that I fixed this! Then I looked down and saw my problem - I left the side stand down after putting it up on the center stand... Put the side stand up, tried again and SUCCESS! Took her for a quick 5 minute ride and other than two brief occasions when it lunged a bit when starting off in first (I assume due to new fluids needing to circulate fully), she ran like the beast she is!

I have a 2006 Yamaha FJR automatic. Just did a clutch plate change and offcourse engine fluid change and filter and now I have code 26 and at times code 17, neither of which are in the list of codes. New clutch plates were soaked in oil and all installed and torqued properly, no leak, cover is on, etc. One time it got into gear and actually the back wheel was slowly turning on the center stand. Hoping I have not opened a huge can of worm, watch many videos related to the clutch change and everything went pretty OK, had some issues but fixed those, the bike is back together great as far as I know. I have like 55K and was having shifting issues, the first and last clutch rings were more black than the other ones, assuming some slipping. Any comments appreciated, have turned on and off several times, will let it sit for a while but the code 26 is pretty persistant now. Problem which started this whole thing once in a while the shift light would come on and the bike would turn off and would not change gear, had to sit for a bit and it would then run, dealer could not reproduce the problem so wasted my time leaving the bike with them for a while. Sounds like I might have to look into changing clutch fluid instead of clutch plates. Again any help is appreciated.

I'll let the AE guys help you out.... but it's not unusual on any FJR for the rear wheel to spin slowly while on the centerstand.. will do less so if the oil is hot. I think you're seeing it because you got brand new (thicker) clutch plates.

Not sure if you figured it out yet, but code 17 and 26 are on page 8-182 of the FSM. I added them below. When you were changing the fluid, did you cycle the shift actuator? I can upload more pics from the FSM but it reads that your shift actuator might be stuck ( something to do with the plate replacement) (code 17) or the fluid level is low or has air in it ( code 26). I ask as when I changed the fluid on mine you have to cycle the fluid to make sure the air is out. The FSM PG 3-19 details what to do.
Hope this helps. I own an 08ae with 45k miles on it.

The rear wheel slowly spinning is normal on the center stand as the engine warms up.

From my limited experience, I have not found a shop that knows anymore about an AE than what the FSM shows / tells them. It seems there are not alot of these bikes around anymore.
