cooling fan not working

I got stuck in traffic on the way home from work Tuesday my bike 2004 would run up to 4 bars then the fan comes on and it drops back down but this time it went al the way up got out of the traffic and the temp went back down. well today it did it again looked like the fan was not turning on got the bike home check no fan running put the bike on the center stand turned the key on fan is now running im thinking relay ???? check found no leaks anyway to check the relay and where do I find it

In this thread you can see the location of the relay..Is under from the front cowling:
In the 04 the service manual says that the fan relay is the third from left when you are looking the bike from the front..

thanks so much for that link funny thing happen today I started the bike let it run it got to 4 bars and the fan came on now its hard to find a bad part when it seems to be working now, I will look more on sunday and see what I can find

Have a look also for a bad or dirt connection somewhere..and let us know if you will find something..

well I let it run the fan can on went off just like it should not once but three times took it for a ride same thing happen I wish I knew what happen but all seems to be working fine

It might be worth lifting off the tank and removing the fairings and check all electrical connections, my 2003 needed some TLC a short while ago and as winter looms this could be the best time to do it.

i wish i didnt keep falling off. Gen1 fjr 1300

If your coolant has an air bubble in the system it could also cause the same symptoms.

Ditto on all of the above.
You can also check the fan relays using the diagnostic codes.
A crook relay can also cause an intermittent fault.
High resistance on a connector, esp the ECU plug.
