FJR Earthing problem

Hi Everyone
This is my first time with a question/problem on the forum. Hope someone can help me.

I think I may have an earthing problem on my 2009 FJR1300A.

Once the bike is warm after a 30 minute ride and stopping for a coffee, when I push the start button, firstly there is no action.IE nothing to the starter motor.( Plenty of power as the guages do their dance on initial key on) Secondly after pushing the starter button, the indicator lights (on dash) and the high beam indicator light comes on and stays on. Only way to get the bike started is to turn ignition off, hold start button in and the turn ignition on.
It starts immediately but some times the indicator and high beam indicator lights stay on. Once you blip the throttle they all go out and everything is back to normal. ( Bike starts easily when the bike is cold)
I'm thinking its an earth problem but I cant find where the main earth joins to the chassis.

Can anyone help me......Please!!!.... Its driving me crazy.

Bruce, please add your bike model to your signature line, itíll help a bunch. From the description of your problem Iím guessing you have a 2007 and Bernieís link is spot on. Iíll add that even though I have no personal experience with the spider bite problem the recall fix doesnít go far enough and Russís thread addressís that. Good luck & let us know how you do.

Being your high beam indicator comes on, yep, you got spider bitten... follow the thread Bernie linked and dig into it.

Hi Everyone,
Well I must thank all who have gone before me re the spider bite. My Bike is an 09 FJR . It has had the recall earth wire installed to the S4. I went through all 8 spiders and found that the S6 was storing some green fury stuff!( Corrosion)

All other spiders were clean. The plug on the extra earth cable was also clean. Tried cleaning the S6 to no effect.
So I followed everyones advice and chopped it off and soldered the wires together. All symptoms are gone( to my relief) and the mighty FJR rides again!!

Thanks again everyone. Your knowledge and experience and the effort to make the information available is much appreciated.

Sweet resolution! I'm glad I took the time to thoroughly document everything.

I'll say again- in the thread (link Bernie posted) the Drop Box links may expire. If you can't see the pictures, post up and send me a PM. Getting new links is a cinch!
