GEN4? Steering Head Nut Socket Wrench

I want to buy a Steering Head Nut Socket Wrench for my 2018, found a link to fleabay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Steering-St...kAAOSwq7JT-rH8

but it says it DOES NOT fit my 2018. I don't want to drop $50 to find out if it works especially since there are no returns

Does anyone know what part number or have a link that will fit the 2018?

Mike, I just checked and there are several listed to work for the 2013-2018 fjr’s, prices range from $25-$50. The downside is all of them are listed as being from Great Britain so it’ll be a while before you get it due to shipping issues.

I ordered this one for my 2013 on a Sunday afternoon and it arrived on a Tuesday week ( 9 days ). Your mileage may vary, professional rider on closed course, etc...
Friend of mine used it to torque his 2019 and no issues.

I just recently purchased one from the same site for my 09 AE .also said it didn't fit the AE but said it fit the 09 A so I rolled the dice (35 bucks) I'll take a chance. It came pretty quickly, it fit perfectly , good quality and made torqueing the head a snap. Happy camper here.

Five days ago I installed a Helibars handle bar riser on my 2016 Yamaha FJR 1300 ES ,I had to remove the top triple tree as part of the install ,the steering head nut is 36 mm ,I borrowed one from a friend but you should be able to purchase @ 36 mm socket @ most hardware stores which sell mechanic tools or a tool specialist store.

I used that castellated socket for both my 2008 Gen II and my 2020 FJR - they are the same size.

I bought exactly that one from that seller for my 2018. It fit mine just fine. I sent a note to the seller asking about 2018 fitment and this is what he came back with for a reply:

"Yes, this is the correct wrench for your FJR1300 ES. Your bike uses partnumber 90179-30691-00 for the steering stem nut.

This wrench was designed to fit that nut. Ebay allows me to enter the bikes this fits, however since they don't always know the model numbers and sometimes they are hard to find on their list (the list is what I select from). I confirm the fit by partnumber as above."

Good luck!
Dave

The outside nut is 36mm but the steering bearing preload nut is castellated not hex and under the top bridge which you removed. You were about 10 seconds away from being able to set/check your steering preload. They (two) are under a stamped metal holder sitting on top like a washer.
