ABS light flashing

I have recently purchase a 2012 FJR1300 with 58500 klms on it. After 2 weeks of owning it I noticed the ABS light has started flashing as soon as I turn on the ignition key. Need some help as to what to investigate.

You can also search the forum archives for "flashing ABS light".

Time spent looking at motorcycles, even Harleys, is never wasted.

My 2018ES does it intermittently. Itís not lever or pedal. Sensors are clean and clear. I suspect itís a glitchy switch. Havenít been willing to take it to the shop for warranty investigation since everything works.

No commercials. No dictators.

Did you check your rear brake travel? If it moves more than a half inch before the brake light comes on it will cause the ABS to flash (ABS 23). That was my issue. Adjusted the rear switch and no problem since.

Itís not throwing any codes. Which of the two pedal switches did you adjust?

That’s surprising. Would have thought it would throw a code anytime the ABS light flashes like it does with a check engine light. So you jumped the pins on the ABS connector by the battery and no codes show on the LCD dash display?

In any event, if it isn’t throwing an ABS 23 code than my solution isn’t the solution to your problem. To answer your question I adjusted the rear brake light switch. The adjustment changes the point at which the brake light comes on. Somehow the adjuster nut on mine moved resulting in over an inch of pedal travel before the brake light would come on. The brake light is supposed to come on with no more than a half inch of pedal movement. The shop manual notes this and states the excessive pedal travel before the brake light comes on can cause an ABS 23 fault code which is what I experienced.
