Hello. Assuming you and/or the dealer checked all the linkages and clutch and everything is in spec. I'd check the ground spiders for corrosion. I think the one under the tank is used by the shifter but best to check all of them. Good luck!

Howdy. Welcome to the forum.

Hopefully you bought it from Wigan Yamaha and not privately. Highly likely that the previous owner got rid of it due to the problem.
If you bought it from Wigan or another dealer you are entitled to reject it if they are unable to fix it, under the terms of the Sale of Goods Act and get your money back.
If you bought it privately, unfortunately, it is more difficult. You could take the seller to the Small Claims Court. You can get advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Unfortunately motor bikes are now so complicated that sometimes it is difficult for dealers to diagnose problems.

Worst case scenario you have to convert it to a hand clutch model. There are threads on the conversion on this forum. I have no first hand knowledge of the level of difficulty, or cost, but I'm sure there are forum members who do (and someone with the necessary parts). Enter a WTB post if/when you reach that point. Not a negative conversion for most FJR enthusiasts. Welcome to the forum!
