Top case recall/update?

Saw a post on the Spacebook FJR sight about a guy loosing his Yamaha top case because of a lost rubber piece on the bottom of the case-someone replied that there was a recall/tech bulletin from Yamaha that added a plate to the bottom of the case? Does anyone know what the deal is?

I don't know what the current new cases are.... the recall to add a full aluminum plate to the bottom of the case was done years ago, like 2006-2007.

Ok so somehow I ended up with a Blue case for my 16 that doesn’t have the aluminum plate on the bottom????

Anyone have a suggestion or a Recall/Tech bulletin number

We do not know if the Gen3 cases (I'm assuming 50L) have that plate by design or not. The older 39L cases did. That recall is so old..... you can ask the dealer though.

It’s a 50L case...seems odd to me it doesn’t have the plate that long after the recall/update ???

New design.... I guess Yamaha decided it wasn't necessary, assuming they made improvements to the base....

Shad makes the top cases and mounting brackets for Yamaha these day and I believe that your 2016 unit is a Shad piece. Nothing to worry about so long as you use either the Yamaha heavy aluminum rear rack or the Shad tube rack similar to the givi sr357, by the way 10lbs max in that top box.

Iam using the Yamaha aluminum rack...a bit spendy but it’s a nice piece. For the most part I only use the top case when Iam on a road trip. Thanks
