Hi folks,

My 2004 model seems to have a issue whereby the windscreen has quite a lot of play when in the low position.

When I move it up to the high position, it's stiff without any play.

Any idea why this is and how to check the brackets etc.. what must I take off to get to the motor and windshields brackets etc.. does anyone have photos?

I have been in there and it's not too hard, just time consuming. remove windscreen, mirrors, dash plastic, and top fairing and violas. Just in case you want to just leave the screen part way up so it doesn't wiggle, disable the auto retract and leave it in one position. I will leave a link to retract disable> http://www.fjr-tips.org/mods/shield/shield.html

The file below helps with the '06-'12. Maybe you can find something useful for your '04.

Thank you. So what exactly is loose? Are there bolts that I need to tighten or what?

IIRC on the older models there are plastic or teflon guides that slide in a track that wear some. Check some parts diagrams https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle
