Idles High at Start-up

One minor annoyance with my bike is that at cold start-up it idles at higher rpm until after about two minutes it settles down to a regular idle. Is this normal behavior for these machines?

Absolutely. Working as designed. All is good. Just don't shut it down during that cold idle, on the next start-up, it can on occasion fool the ECU into thinking it needs more fuel and maybe it will flood and not start.... in which case you make sure you have a topped up battery charge. Then hold wide open throttle and crank it over. It should start eventually, if not, give it a rest, repeat later.

How much higher? I think on a cold start, mine idles at about 1500 rpm for less than two minutes. Then it drops to the usual 1100 rpm. Remember, the FJR does not have a manual choke. And after 2012, they do not have a manual idle adjustment.

On yours, after it has warmed up, if you need to, adjust the idle to 1100 rpm.

Yes, mine operates to the same rev range, so all is normal.
