Ok, I'm in...battery stuff, yeah baby! Lithium no good, ok - I'll trust the scout's words. Yuasa OEM replacement is best, maybe. Chinese batteries not entirely eschewed but not entirely recommended, ok. But when I look at Walmart.ca ('cause I live in .ca) I find a $25 replacement battery. You could buy a new one of these every season and still save money!

BTW for years I have been using a fancy BMW battery tender and connect my bike to it every single time I park in the garage (haven't pulled it out of the wall yet neither, lol!). My '05 that I bought 2 weeks ago came with a battery that's 5 years old already. But so far no problems. Going with the LED headlights to reduce running draw though (they're on the way).

Rubber down, shiny up! And remember, not everyone out there is trying to harm you!

Um.... maybe you had a typo..... YT4 incorrect, way too small, you want YT14 (and they don't have one listed).

The FJR has the very common simple motorcycle stator and flywheel alternator with shunt regulator/rectifier. The stator always outputs full power for whatever speed. If your headlights do not use the power then the R/R has to eat it generating heat.

Also consider your OE headlights are not the way they are because Yamaha didn't know how to make brighter headlights back then. Headlights are designed to meet specific regulatory requirements as to how much and where to put the light on the road and out of eyes so as not to blind oncoming traffic.
