Cruise Control Flashing

This has not occurred before but this weekend on a 700km ride my 2013 FJR had a problem with the cruise control. Sometimes it worked no problem. It seems as if I left it on when shutting off the bike that when I restarted the bike the CC would flash and would not be able to engage. If I turner off the bike and restarted it worked.

Any suggestions?

check the handlebar switches are working properly. There is no real adjustment except to tweak them in the mounting holes, and Yamaha seems to have set them so they are very sensitive.

Also check the ABS sensors, remove and clean them so there is no doubt of corrosion and they seat properly. A little silicone grease will slow down the corrosion.

There is a possibility of a faulty sensor, check that next if the above does not solve the problem.

Did you by chance do a big altitude change?

My 2013 will do this if I come down several thousand feet. Shutting down and restarting fixes it. My theory then and now is that the air pressure changes enough to go out of the expected range of the CC in the ECU, and after restarting, the ECU recalibrates.

I believe Yamaha had a service bulletin and ECU flash to fix it; since it's not a show-stopper, they didn't make it a formal recall.

It does not like it if you use the throttle enthusiastically with the cruise control on. Should be fine if you just re set it

Just went on a long ride and no issues this time even though I did not make any changes. Still will check out on the advice given above.

Cruise Control Flashing

I spent several hours over the course of a year dealing with intermittent cc issues. Ended up being a 2 second fix, simply spraying contact cleaner into the switch on the front brake lever. But at least all of the other cc related components are clean now

Mine just started ... light blinking but no codes. So I'm going to try the contact cleaner trick first ...

Mine did it this morning. First time I tried to use it today. Riding in a group. Rounded top of a hill where I pulled the clutch and turned off the ignition switch. Then on, restarted engine at 50 MPH, and CC worked the rest of the day.

Mine has done this very infrequently for a couple of years. I completed a 6000-mile trip last year, for instance, and it did it once. Sometimes I can just shut the ignition off and back on, and all's good. Sometimes I have to leave it off for a longer period of time, like over lunch. If it does it while I'm just out riding around I just come on home; it'll work the next day until next time. I'm just waiting until it stops working and doesn't fix itself.

I've got a new set of tires to mount, and I'm planning to clean the wheel sensors at that time, and I'll go ahead and spritz the brake and clutch switches at that time. The problem is that it'll be months before I know if I fixed it or it just hasn't decided to screw up again .... yet.
