You will need the FSM to describe the diagnostic function where you can view, test and clear codes. If you are getting a code, let us know which one and we can steer you further.
thanks for the input. I am gonna take it for a spin when the weather permits and hopefully when the computer sees both wheels going the same speed it will reset.

Just ride it for a while and it resets itself.

Mich, did the same thing on my 14 with the same results and if memory serves me (questionable) it took a bit of riding for it to reset, thought I'd screwed the pooch as they say but about the time I was thinking it was time to visit the dealer it went out and all was good, all in a days ride.

Hmm. This thread makes me think there should be a "dislike" message selection.

I don't agree with your substantive point, but I very much agree with the sentiment behind it.

Well I got a chance to ride Friday and like others have said the check engine like went off within a very short distance presumably once the ECM saw both wheels going the same speed.

I'm just glad I didn't have to beg and plead for the secret codes. That was close.

I have the exact same issue with my 2016, ran the bike briefly in gear on the center stand now have the engine warning light on. I took it for a 5 minute ride but still have the warning. Michstorm, Passx or others, is a longer ride necessary to rest the warning?

Barnesville, you will not reset it unless you have an OBD2 adapter and an appropriate reader. However, the problem was known early on, reported by several. Yamaha issued a service bulletin for that very issue, so head to your dealer for a free ECU reflash and problem gone (16's and later). See Scott's recent thread.
