Yamaha ended up fixing my 2014 with zero charge to me. I would have well over 80,000 miles when I traded it on a new 2018 ES. I bought Y.E.S. From D&H for the ‘18. I have an intermittent blinking abs light with no codes thrown on the ‘18. I’ll take it in eventually. It’s not affecting any aspect of bike function at this point. I bought the ‘18 in late November of 2018. I have around 20,500 miles on it now.

The opportunity for me to buy the extended warranty for my 18 expired a couple of weeks ago. I seriously contemplated buying it. I have never bought an extended warranty before. I know individual machines can always have an issue, but I considered the FJRs excellent reliability record over a decade and a half years in production. i considered that Japanese bikes on the whole have had excellent reliability records seemingly forever. When I talked to my local dealer who has been a personal friend for over 40 years, he said he would sell me one, but didn't think I would ever need it. In all the years he has been selling FJR's (He's been a Yamaha dealer for 40 years) he didn't recall a time when one of his customers would have used it. He sells very few extended warranties. In the end I passed on buying it. Hope that wasn't a foolish decision. One year and a little over 15,000 miles down..4 years to go to find out lol

Ferret, had you received the emails/letters/etc from Yamaha? Reason I ask is I have a 2017 and I only started receiving the stuff from Yamaha a few weeks ago. Included in the correspondence was a RP#, which, when going on to the Yamaha website allowed me to see when my factory warranty expires. Turns out mine expired in October 2019. For my 2017 ES!
To check/verify, go to https://www.yamaha-motor-yes.com/search/ and enter your VIN. I have absolutely no idea why my factory expired in 10/2019....I thought the bike only had a 1 year warranty.... .

BTW, D&H still offers the 4 year at $389.00. I called, got the info, and mailed a check yesterday. Normally I don't do extended, but for less than $100/year, why not? And, I ride the heck outa the bike as well . If I continue, within 4 years there will probably be well over 200k miles. Sooooooo

Good luck!

One thing I would like to point out - of few states (FLORIDA being one of them) does *NOT* allow extended warranties to be purchased from another state. I am not sure why. But that was the nail in the coffin for me and decided not to purchase the extended YES warranty.

Yeah, this comes up once in a while. Mostly folks have to decide whether it's worth it to him/her/it. I bought it from D&H back in '08 and used it several times easily recouping my money. With the continuing troubles with ABS blinking lights, throttle sensor failures and check engine lights coming on I would buy the extended warranty in a heartbeat.

Florida considers it an insurance policy and therefore requires it to be purchased in-state. Maybe Washington too.

Well talking about the YES warranty and Florida let me pose this question if anyone can answer it....

So you buy a bike in FL and want the YES warranty....canít get one from D&H because they are out of state....

What if I drive up to Alabama (where D&H is located) and buy a bike in Alabama....would I be able to buy the YES warranty then even if Iím from Florida?

Call d&h , they were very helpful/knowledgeable when I bought mine, the YES was probably the best thing i’ve bought for my fjr and have easily/sadly recouped the cost. Highly recommended !

I really enjoy my fjr but it has been troublesome to say the least. But that fastest color red just makes me smile and draws a lot of compliments.
