Another new FJR Owner

I just purchased a 2013 FJR today and ride her home tomorrow.
My backstory:
53 years old. 20+ year rider off and on. Last 10 years have been a 2003 Moto Guzzi Breva a 2007 Vrod and part time on a 1998 Fat Boy and just off a 2011 BMW R1200RT.
How did I come to the FJR?
I wanted to go a sport touring bike in 2010 and ended up with the RT after strong competitive analysis including the FJR and Comcours14. The BMW was the best fit for me at that time and no regrets. Love the boxer and comfort of the RT.
Unfortunately, I had a mishap 2 weeks ago on a right hand sweeper with 150 ft swath of loose gravel spread across the whole turn exit. Lost the rear wheel traction (no ATC on my RT)and almost rode it out until I hit a side trap rut and went down on the left side. Let go and the bike flipped on the right side and slid down the road another 50 feet. I walked away thanks to AGATT with just 2 sprained thumbs, a small road rash on my right hand and a nice bruise on my inner thigh. The RT didn't fare was well, insurance co decided to total even though it all just fairing, bags and mirrors damaged, I had crash bars so no engine or frame damage at all
So got a very fair insurance settlement and narrowed it down to the same 3 choices plus the Triumph Trophy. Narrowed down to the FJR or waiting until March for the 2014 liquid cooled RT. Decided that I wanted the FJR as much as the new RT and the deal I got is at least $10,000 less than the RT. Hard to justify the extra $10k when I really rate them equally in the end. The FJR is closer to the K1600GT in engine performance and weight, but that is closer to double the price that I got the FJR for out the door.

Welcome to the fold. FJRs are great bikes and been shown to be a better choice for most than the RT and a better value with a couple fewer luxuries (and much lower price) than the GT. Just think of what you can do with all the money you saved!

I really, really, really wanted a Gen III FJR but financially I couldn't forked it.

I picked up a 2006 for a decent price and I cant wipe the grin of my face anytime I ride it.

You will love your new bike, looks like you really did your HOMEWORK on this, Ha!

Welcome.

Congrats on the new FJR ! No one wants to have a spill on their bike, but it's reassuring to hear another tale of ATGATT saving your hide.
