Abbreviations

Abbreviations are used a lot on this forum so I think a dedicated and "searchable" Thread would be a nice thing to have for quick reference.
Not sure what would be the best way and format to integrate "one Master list" that can GROW and be updated or revised (by adding abbreviations) by all forum members?

CIWAS = chime in with any suggestions

P.S.
Yes there is always Google or many sites like this one:
https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Ab..._on_the_Forums

...but they usually don't return anything relevant to (this forum specific) abbreviations i.e.
-YCC-S (Yamaha controlled clutch shifting)
-YCC-T (Yamaha chip controlled throttle)
-FSM (factory service manual),
-TCS (traction control system),
-TCI (Transistor controlled ignition)
- etc, etc

Why is Abbreviation such a long word? If there was only some way to shorten it.

I had a 1SG (First Sergeant) who worked for me who earlier in his career had been an enlisted aide to the Secretary of the Army. Part of his job was to manage the Secretary's desk. He put documents in his inbox, removed them from his out box, made sure classified materials were properly handled and generally got the Secretary whatever he needed. The Secretary was new to the job and had little background with the military. He was faced with an endless stream of military acronyms in the documents he read, during briefings or in conversations. So he asked my 1SG to prepare everyday a list of ten acronyms along with their meaning and place it on his desk. The first acronym on the first list the 1SG prepared was LOA, but he did not provide a descriotion of its meaning. The Secretary asked him what LOA meant and he told him, "List of Acronyms", I thought you would like to know how they get started."

For clarity, I think this thread should be titled "acronyms" rather than "abbreviations".

Eschew obfuscation.
