I'd rather have fuel injection in the ZRX, but the carbs haven't given me any grief in the last 21 years.

I do like the newer technology, but the ZRX is as near a perfect fit for me as I've ever had. I've looked at later models considering updating, but they're never just right. I thought the Tracer may be a good option for me to downsize as I age, but it's so tall I'm not comfortable with it. Seat height is a problem with everything I've tried lately.

I was going by the Yamaha website. According to their specifications the Tracer seat height is 33.5 or 34.1, and the FJR is 31.7 or 32.5.

I haven't actually set on one. I need to find one and do that.

I tried a friend's Ninja 1000 last time we rode together, and it was too tall to be comfortable.

I was referring to the 2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT (not the 900) seat height is 31.9-32.5, basically same as FJR..

I for one am looking forward to March/April 2021 to actually sit on a Tracer 9 GT. It's expensive (but it is loaded). The bags are ugly. The wind protection does look like much. It looks weird. But for those of us who are short of stature, getting older and don't want to push 650 lbs around, don't ride two up, and do light touring it might fit the bill better than anything else out there.

I noticed the seat height is 15 MM lower too.

https://paultan.org/2020/11/18/2021-...9-gt-launched/

Seat height is now 15 mm lower and the seat is able to be set in one of two position without the use of tools while the foot rests are adjustable vertically by 15 mm, along with a reversible handlebar clamp that gives the rider one of two hand positions. The Tracer 9 uses 17-inch, lightweight spin-forged 10-spoke alloy wheels shod with 120/70 front and 180/55 rear Bridgestone Battleax T32 Sport Touring tyres

Ah. I see. Thanks. I hadn't realized it'd been updated to that degree. I'm not keeping up with the new models anymore.

You've hit on all my reasons for considering a change. I'm not overly enthused about the looks either, but it fits most of my other wants. I love the FJR, but I've developed a pair of bad rotator cuffs in the last couple of years, and the FJR is just too heavy. I fear it's just a matter of time until I hit a loose surface, a foot slips, and it'll be down before I can stop it. I wish it was shaft drive, but I've dealt with chains for 55 years.
