What Saddlebags look like, bucked off at 90 mph.

In late November I was riding my new to me 2007 Deep Cherry Red FJR down Pellissippi Prkwy. near Knoxville Tenn. When I rode over an over pass bump. Looked in my rear view mirror and saw two medium size black balls flipping down the Parkway. ( RIDER ERROR )I felt back for the saddlebags and they were gone. Pride bone aching I did a u turn and took the ride of shame praying that those saddlebags didn't cause an accident. The good lord was looking down upon me because there was no accidents and I did not see my tools and clothes strewn down the Parkway.

Since I got such a sweet deal on this FJR I couldn't see paying a lot of cash to have the bags repainted so I went the cheap route with colorite. For 80.00 you gat a kit that includes paint, clear coat, primer, tach cloth, 1000 grit sand paper, polish compound along with instructions. I had some bondo and fiberglass repair left over from fixing old surf boards and sailboat hulls so used the bond first, then fiber glass, then sanded and fiber glassed, sanded trying to get out cracks, wholes, scratches and chips.

Next was priming, sanding, a few times. Then painted on a humid day which made the paint beed up. Could not get the gloss I wanted and put to many coats of paint on which made the saddlebags darker than I wanted. Clear coated a few times then used the polishing compound.

Made sure latches all worked and gorilla glued bracket covers to lower pegs connections. Ordered yamaha stickers from Partzilla (31.00), repainted rubber bumpers and took yellow reflectors off from forks and glued on saddlebags. This took me about 3 months and wish I had just sent the covers to Garauld (forum member) for a professional job instead of an obvious DIY job.

Thank you for reading and hope this helps anyone who decides to repair their own saddlebags.

Now let's not get carried away. We former owners and purists of the gorgeous Black Cherry will say there's no comparison whatsoever with the Lipstick Pink ones. Black Cherry is the faster one of the two, the only one faster than that is Root Beer.

Garage
don't feel to bad. I stepped on mine in the garage. It was sitting next to the ladder that I was using to get my fireworks down for last 4th of July. It was 11:45 at night on the 3rd. I stepped down stepped on the the case lost my balance stepped on a folded canvas tarp and twisted my ankle. Long story long I am now still staring at my broken and scrapped case with an ankle that doesn't want to heal.
case shell now flops on the bottom.

Thatís part of why I just keep the bags on the bike, less chance of damaging them or me, unless you run the (fill in your favorite thing here) into your parked fjr,,,,,, do-do happens!
