I apologize... I realize I never responded to that question. The much-anticipated answer: I don't know.

When I wanted to discuss the on/off switch for cruise control, I did a Google image search and came up with that one. Obviously the LED is someone's after-market add-on, but I don't know what it's for.

I did a Google image search and came across MCCruise's after market cruise control for MT-09 and FJ-09. It's an add-on, but an image on the description says "Genuine Yamaha Cruise Control Switch" so... <big shrugging emoji here>

All kidding aside -- not that it's not fun -- but a friend had a light like this on his Cavalcade many years ago. It simply lit up if his charging fell below what was necessary to maintain his battery. He added it after being stranded with a dead battery somewhere in Utah. It would be on until he started the bike then should stay off until he killed it unless something went wrong in the charging system.

Whatever the owner added it for I'd bet it's just some kind of warning -- maybe low charging voltage.

Well, not the only way.

I financed mine at 3.5% and made money on the investments while making payments. That's a gamble, of course, but the economy was going well, and I felt it a safe bet.

I do that pretty routinely, though. I bought an RV a few years back for a heckuva lot more money than the FJR and financed that because I'd have been in the 25% bracket if I pulled it out of the IRA all at once. The plan was to pull what I could every year at the 15% tax rate and apply that to principal. Then the tax reduction hit, and it dropped to 12%. That worked well

But I realize I'm splitting hairs. I agree to pay cash or have the ability to pay it off.

Just keepin' up with traffic, Officer.
