That was Alan Hatcher ... nice guy. While I like to rag on BMW, to be fair his bike had 245k on it at the start of the rally.

It was 4th July 2015. I had just finished my 48/10 at the start hotel in Albuquerque (planned). I watched the rally start then rode the 800 miles home and parked the bike.

It was still parked when at 7.30pm I heard Alan had broken down around 200 miles away. I left Jodie co-ordinating with Lisa Landry while I ran to Wal-Mart for oil and a filter (Bike had done 8500 miles with no oil change. I sent a sample to Blackstone and they said it was good for 10k next time).

So I changed the oil and filter and rode to meet Alan. Jodie and the kids followed in the mini-van.

He had a new bike by midnight.

Also, Erik Lipps rode 4 hours this year to give his FJR to another rider who needed a bike.

So for the last two IBRs, more FJRs have finished the rally than started it.

I rode my 2005 in the 2017 IBR. I failed, the bike didn't. We were timed out at the 2nd Checkpoint, because reasons.

I plan on entering again in 2021 to put that right, and I imagine it will be on the same bike. If not, that "new-to-us" 2006AE will get its chance in the IBR

Wonder what kind of seat she used ? In the above picture you can’t see what it is. Irregardless she’s one very tough lady, congrats to her on her accomplishment! Particularly so If it was done on a stock seat.

On her way to church two weeks ago, Wendy and a friend were attacked by a mountain lion. She punched it and it ran away, but not before leaving a deep cut on her cheek.

Yeah, she's tough.

Wonder what kind of tires they run that will go 13,000 miles..or did she have to change tires or wheels during the event sometime?

Wendy has an auxiliary tank.

5 of the top 6 was 2015. This year only one of the top ten rode an FJR. It was Wendy's 5th IBR on that same bike.

Almost all will change a rear tire at the first or second checkpoint. Either works. Few will change the front tire and darksiders will not need tire changes.

What’s she running for an auxiliary fuel tank? I just did a Bun Burner 1500 in June and found fuel range was an issue if you were running hard. Fuel stops really eat into your average speed even doing “splash and dashes”
