I've always thought the bike looked best with side bags but honestly always use the top case 90 percent of the time when its on. Now with Utahs new lane splitting option I took off the cases to squeeze between cars if I want to need. Has been useful a couple times. What do you all think. Best with or without side bags?

More I look at it without the bags I really like the look.

The handle bars are wider then the cases.

Looks BEST with neither bags nor trunk IMO, but sometimes I like to carry things and the bags and trunk come in handy. I also want cops to think I'm a mature touring rider and not some sport bike squid needing harassment.

Without bags or trunk itís the best looking true sport touring bike ever made....and that is a bike that has changed very little in sixteen years.

I run with just a Nelson Rigg Sport bag on my passenger seat unless Iím on a trip.

I want cops to think that too, but they mostly think it when we are not actually acting like a squid. I canít get past step one of the twelve step program. I do admit I have a problem with speed, and have since I got my drivers license almost exactly 50 years ago

I think it looks like a sleek sports bike without bags. I had 2 C14's and to me they look like a bulldog on steroids LOL without the bags

Gen IIs must be much narrower in the back than gen Is, I can't fit my '05 through a ~33" door opening with the bags on. Slips through just fine with the mirrors folded in and bags off though.

I agree, most other ST bikes looks hideous without bags, FJR at least looks better then most other ST without luggage. I keep panniers on since I like to have some storage, and it looks more complete and balanced.

The FJR looks totally goofy without panniers, the proportions are off with the exhaust angle.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ! I added fz1 mirrors to my 14a after I got tired of seeing nothing but my elbows, the fz1 mirrors gave it a bit of a “buggish” look but it has grown on me and it’s nice to actually be able to see behind me. I stopped for gas this past Saturday and a fellow who is familiar with the fjr came up to talk and asked about the mirrors and said he preferred the fz1 look over the factory mirrors look.

The fjr is a good looking bike imho and several have told me it has a “transformers” look to it, so to each their own. Do what makes you smile.
