Touch Up Paint

Need some touch up paint for the 2014 red one. Anyone suggest a good color match?

Have a tiny nick on tank that has to be addressed.

Check out the Colorite web site. They match all vehicle paints. My touch up pen is from them and matches my 08 really well.

I started at Color rite, somewhere found the color codes for my bike, and got a can of color rite paint and a can of clear on Amazon for about $42 delivered.
It's an exact match. Looks great!!

Not a fan of Colorite, bunch of dickweeds in my opinion, they really f’d me over on the paint for my 80 cbx but I will add that the color match for the Yamaha aluminum rack for my 2014 was pretty much exact, almost the same color red as my 80 cbx which they provided and was a color closer to black cherry, lots of promises by Colorite who admitted that they screwed up but absolutely no action to fix it. Lots of excuses, buyer beware !

Sadly, I am reading this thread because I stupidly dropped a socket on my tank while reinstalling the top tank bolts. As lifted the ratchet with extender and Allen socket up, the socket dropped. Typically I cover the tank. Sometimes stupid hurts. Ugh.

Dockjekyll, go to the colorrite web site and fill in your bike, and click on the paint code numbers. You have many choices for paint delivery. I had chosen the pen applicator for just your reasoning. Small chip on tank due to f-ups.

2014 Color Match

I know its an older post, but felt I should share this for other '14 owners. I had been searching around for a Corbin trunk, and the "new" price just wasn't going to work for me. So I waited until I could get one at a reasonable price (used), knowing I would likely need to paint it.

Having used the ColorRite Tri-Coat Deep Red Metallic K to paint my trailer lid and fender, I knew how much of a hassle it was getting the tint correct, as it can vary by the amount of the mid-coat red that is applied (Had to do it twice). And I was never completely happy with the results. Not to mention the cost.

After some searching around on color charts, I painted the Corbin trunk lid with Dupli-Color Inferno Red Metallic BCC0412 and Dupli-Color Clear BCL125. Scuffed the existing paint with 600 then 800grit. One light "tack" coat, 8 wet coats of color, 8 wet coats of clear, waiting 3-4 minutes between coats. No buffing after curing.

You can see the result after a 48 hour ambient cure, with the Corbin lid laying on a pannier. Total coating cost from O'Reilly's Auto Parts, $22.00

I know what I will be using if I ever need to paint large areas again.

I have noticed in on a full cloudy day it looks a bit darker than the factory red. But in the sun it looks the same. I think maybe it is due to the metal flake being part of the red rather than the base coat below. One of my friends said he wouldn't have noticed the shade difference under the clouds if I hadn't pointed it out to him.

I think it looks fine, YMMV, test on a coupon.
