Smile Old Old New Guy

Old, meaning that I've been a member for a while. Old, because I'm... well... old. New, because I've only made a few posts and haven't properly introduced myself.

I'm Dale, coming from a Honda ST1100 that I've had for quite a long time. The end of my last riding season she was running rich. Got up one morning and the carb rebuild necessity was apparent when I got a couple cups of raw fuel out my exhaust. But, it was the end of the season so I thought it would make a good winter project.

I let Christmas and New Years pass and then COVID hit and life changed. Kids are home, wife working from home, and very little time for projects. Enter summer....

...and I'm just browsing the "for sale" ads because it is what I do.... and I come across a 2008 FJR1300AE for such a deal I couldn't pass it up. By this time I'm driving my wife and kids nuts hanging out at the house so much and they are begging me to buy it. So I did!

Thank all of you so much!!!!

Using this forum I've changed all the fluids but the front fork oil (and I will, at the next tire change). Wouldn't have known how to purge the ABS system without this forum and I got a congealed clump of muck out after purging that I'm certain would have been an issue while riding.

So, I've cleaned her all up, tuned and synched, put 1000 miles on her in the last few weeks, and am really enjoying my time (even though I kind of feel like I'm cheating on the Honda.... shhhhh.... don't tell).

Looking forward to a great riding season and hope I can repay the favor and help some of you!

Howdy, previous ST 1300 owner here. Take some time getting used to the FJR, much different than the ST Hondas, but in the end great motorcycles.

It doesn't matter what I ride, where I ride, how fast I ride, or how far I ride... it only matters THAT I RIDE...EVERY DAY. "Ferret"

Very true... compared to the Honda I've dropped 70 lbs and gained 50+ hp. The V4 has a unique smoothness too, but the inline 4 makes me feel right at home from my old Kawasaki days.

Not my first Yamaha, I owned a Seca Turbo 650 back in the early 80's. Way too fast for the frame and steering geometry.... of course, those things hadn't come into their own back then. You could actually feel it flex under you if you activated the turbo in a corner. Pretty dang dangerous.

Looking forward to riding this beauty. I truly love the adjustable suspension!
