My ol' FZ has been around the world about 4 times. A high-mileage machine now on reserve duty.

The first Gen 2 FZ-1's (2006) was the first year for fuel injection and the fueling was terrible. I think by 2008 or 2009 Yamaha finally had it fixed.

Same as the first year FZ-09's. Terrible fueling. How does a company release a product that is poorly sorted out?

Yeah, I think they didn't actually FIX the stock FZ1 fueling until 2010. My 2008 was heavily modified until I liked it.

My buddies gen 1 is carbd and the guy he bought it from really worked magic on those carbs, really responsive and typically will get 46-50+ mpgs, plus it just runs like stink. They were really good bikes.

Mine and my son's FZ-1 carbs were spot on as any good set of carbs will be.

The carb ones likely ran the best.. when I was looking for an FZ1, it was either a Gen1 or 2010 up... I decided Gen1.... then I got an insurance quote and that killed that idea.

Saw a FZ-1 " skunk" on this evening's ride. Looked so good I almost turned around to see if the guy wanted to sell it.

My 01 with Dale's high mount exhaust had a mixture of both Dale and Ivan's bits in the carbs.
Smooth pep in it's step and always about 52 mpg with a "disciplined" commute.
