Hello from michigan

Been riding for 25 years and currently ride an 01 VFR800. It's time to go more touring and less sport, and I've always liked the fjr1300. I'm confused about the differences in the older models, from 2004 to 2010. Is there a guide somewhere that breaks down the changes from year to year or differences in model designation? Thanks!

Google test reviews by year for FJR 1300. You'll get more info than you want.

.

FJR - 2014 ABS California Model

Indian Chieftain - 2016

Spyder RT S - 2011

Identify what you have control over and find peace with what you don't.

This forum was a great resource for me before I pulled the trigger. I also tested an 08 vfr800 and it was just too sport for me as well. Happy with with what i have now.

^^^ What CBND8D said, there is a ton of info on the interwebz about these bikes. quick search first hit:

2004. ABS now becomes standard fitment. Only other change is introduction of different colour.

2005. Usual colour addition and subtraction. No other major changes.

2006. FJR1300 is completely overhauled. Basically engine and frame remain unchanged but rest of bike is. Nissan linked brake system, revised overall gearing, curved radiator with twin fans and much larger silhouette are obvious differences. Bike is heavier and much more touring orientated and more inline with what the FJR’s largest market (The U.S.) requested. Weight now has risen to 263kg.

2007. Heated grips optional.

2008. Heated grips standard.

2009. Colour change.

2010. Black versions wheel colour changed to Black.

Here’s a link to a year over year comparison of FJRs from that other forum: http://www.fjrforum.com/files/fjrcomparo.pdf. It’s biased towards the Gen 1 bikes, though I don’t particularly share that bias. I still have the 2006 which I purchased new.

Depending on your budget... shoot for a Gen3, 2013's have been going for plus/minus $7k-ish recently, low milers. Throttle by wire and cruise control are worth the price of admission. Later Gen2's are also good deals. Be patient, there's always a good deal out there somewhere.

You left out the sorted out FI/throttle problems in (I think) 2008. And if your budget will stretch, there are plenty of Series IIIs (2013 on) available relatives inexpensively.

JohnC thanks for the additional input. Agreed as I test rode an 05 FJR1300 and ended up with a 2014 w/7100 miles on it, too good to pass up.
