Smile New owner from MO, 2006

Picked up a very low mileage 2006 just yesterday. Just 3600 miles and looks as good as new. Still has the original tires so I'll swap those before riding much.

Really liking the comfort and the performance. Shifting is a little clunky but not terrible.

My last 2 bikes were an 08 Hayabusa and a 13 Triumph Speed Triple. I loved the Busa, but wasn't as comfortable on the Triumph. So I sold it a month ago in order to shop for my next bike.

I drove a number of BMW's and really like the R1250RT. I also like the new Goldwing, but didn't want to spend $20k+ yet. Maybe in a few years.

The FJR already had a Sargent seat, CalSci shield, and sliders. I've ordered Gerauld's highway pegs and a Ram cellphone mount.

I love a good forum for asking questions and getting answers and this is a great forum.

Dashlock,

Welcome to our sandbox! Pull up a seat, and be among friends.
You can call the Yamaha mothership directly (1-800-962-7926), give them the VIN,
and they will check that all factory recalls (if any) are completed. Free maintenance.

Cheers,
Red

When I was a track-a-holic on my R1 & R6, I used to think that the FJR was an old man's bike. Then I got one and absolutely love it. Hey...wait a minute!

It needs 2 recalls. Dealer says it could take up to 2 weeks since they may have to order parts once they tear into it. Not sure I want to give it up so soon after just getting it. 😀

Dashlock,

If they are safety item recalls, I would not delay. If you can postpone them safely, just make sure the recalls will not expire, then decide from there.

The '06 had several recalls, so hard to say. The dash replacement, some had ECU, some had ignition switch, and maybe spider harness.

I'd be asking the dealer for specifics and decide from there, especially if "they have to tear into it" to determine if parts are needed. That sounds like the spider harness, all others were simple parts replacement and can be ordered beforehand.
