YouTube yet again

If I read an earlier thread correctly, taking the YouTube share link, stripping out the 's' from https, and posting the result should embed the video. I tried it in another area here and... flaming red URL, not embedded video. Why is that?

http://youtu.be/l4fk1kKF408

I used to think I probably knew what I was doing. Now I know I probably know what I'm doing. Which doesn't say I always knew what I was doing or always know what I'm doing. You know what I'm saying?

All I did was copy the URL and paste it here using the link icon.

Ah. The link icon. How very clever on someone's part. And how brain-dead on my part. TNX!

I used to think I probably knew what I was doing. Now I know I probably know what I'm doing. Which doesn't say I always knew what I was doing or always know what I'm doing. You know what I'm saying?

Uh... I must be really brain dead. I used the URL shown above and copied from the YouTube share. I used the "globe with a chain" icon and pasted the share link from the video. Instead of an embedded video, I get "see above".

The resulting code from using the globe and chain icon is:
Code:
 LeftBracketUncleRalphLies=Quoteshown address aboveCloseQuoteRightBracketUncleRalpLiesLeftBracketFwdSlashUncleRalLiesRightBracket
UncleRalphLies = URL - quoting HTML tags in a code block will still activate as if they weren't in a code block. Ditto for URL's (addresses)

I used to think I probably knew what I was doing. Now I know I probably know what I'm doing. Which doesn't say I always knew what I was doing or always know what I'm doing. You know what I'm saying?

Mr_Ed posted the YT embed HTML for the video:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/l4fk1kKF408" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That sorta crashed and burned, too.

I've always just manually entered the tags and video ID.

Code:

Ah-hah! The "share" version of the link is mindless because it uses youtu.be and doesn't have the "watch" bit in the URL.

The version that works is a simple cut&paste of the URL as shown in the browser (Firefox, Chrome, IE, etc.). It uses youtube.com and watch?=v(video id number)

Like this:

For laughs and grins, here's another bit from the same trip:

I used to think I probably knew what I was doing. Now I know I probably know what I'm doing. Which doesn't say I always knew what I was doing or always know what I'm doing. You know what I'm saying?

Yeah. I tried it, failed, then deleted.

That's how it works on the ZRX forum, but I didn't want to confuse the issue with failed attempts.

Just keepin' up with traffic, Officer.

No worries. You've hit on one of those little annoyances, where including the embed code works on one site, the share URL works on another site, and the URL from the browser works here, that keeps life interesting.

I used to think I probably knew what I was doing. Now I know I probably know what I'm doing. Which doesn't say I always knew what I was doing or always know what I'm doing. You know what I'm saying?
