Good news! Lubing has improved the operation of the mechanicals considerably! I sprayed lubricant into every available orifice (of the top box), then worked the release handle several times. I am so pleased!!!

If you are going into surgery mode it may be more cost effective in time and aggravation to find a used one or buy a new one. Just my .02 The older I get the less inclined I am to spend days/weeks/months fixing stuff. I fix a lot, but I admit defeat a lot earlier now too. Just because I can doesn't mean I should.
