Russell seat - Bit the bullet

Greetings,

I gave up on trying to break in my stock seat. After the first 45 mins on riding, it just starts to hurt to the point where I have to get off and start stretching...

So, finally last night, I filled in the Russell seat purchase form and received a Production date in November... The **** seat is pricey so it was either losing interest in my new bike or just breaking in to my piggy bank...

May God have Mercy on me!!

Good for you! Christmas early, do they have Black Friday coupon codes? You will be all set for riding longer distances. Stock seat bothers me about 45 min. I tough it out for longer. Maybe over winter will get around to fitting a set of pegs on the Canyon cages. Another place to put your feet changes the angles and pressure points somewhat.

May I suggest the the OP ..buy a purple pad seat cushion https://tinyurl.com/yyrdgbfl
this should allow you to go 3 times further then you can now ( I have done 3 400 plus mile days with this ....and an air hawk ) with out the ..I start to hurt in 5 minutes

I went mildly wrong with my latest rdl, my first made for me, not used. When posing for the photos I got thinking how a Corbin I once had put my butt way back away from the tank and posed for the pics up real close to the tank. Oops! Seat was built according to those pics, it took two returns and a sheepskin to get it rideable for distance. Canít blame rdl, they tried to make it right, and I wasnít going to make them eat my mistake by returning it.
The used rdl I had on my 04 was the best seat I ever had.

I have a couple of Corbins on my CBX’s, the one on my 80 I bought and quite frankly is the worst seat I’ve ever sat on, even worse than the factory fjr seat,,,,, but it is pretty !

The one on my 81 is what I all a taxi cab weave, hard as a brick but holds my personal longest day record at 730mi.

On the fjr, the oe seat was good for a max of 40-45min Max but I was starting to hurt at about 30min. So within a very short time of buying my fjr I ordered the Yamaha “touring, comfort, gel” seat which was a big improvement but still good for about 350-400mi before needing to call it a day. And after a 380mi each way trip I came home and called Seth Laam with the oe seat in the mail by weeks end,,,, best money I ever spent !

I looked at Russell as well but just couldn’t get over the look, while I have no doubt that they are comfy they are just ugly to me. With my Laam I have ridden up to 670mi with no butt pain, could’ve easily gone farther but it was raining and just time to get a room.

Anyway like many here I have spent a lot of money on “fix’s” but would’ve been better off and cheaper to simply just spend the money &buy a Laam or Russell, I would be money ahead. I have almost the same money in my “comfort” seat as I do in my Laam for a 400mi seat. The Yamaha “touring” seat is a good looking seat but it ain’t no Laam !
