I tried Whataburger, In N Out, and Steak and Shake all for the first time this year as I was traveling and none of these places are around where I live. If I had to choose, Whataburger would win out of the three, although none of them stood out as something I would crave if I went back that direction someday. As others have mentioned, Five Guys tops my list for a burger chain. My only complaint with Five Guys is that they don't serve milkshakes.

Steak-n-Shake is a solid, very reliable meal, tastes great, reasonably priced. But if you're in the Chicago area it's gotta be Portillo's. Best burger you can find, and you can pair it with slice of chocolate cake.

"Oh bother," sighed Pooh as he armed the photon torpedoes.

I have never been a fan of Hype.
I tried in&out. It wasnt worth the hype, or the crowd, or the parking disaster, or the dirty tables or the rush to pound the food and clear out because there is people standing over you waiting for your table.
I prefer to find a dive bar with known great food and enjoy the visit with the locals and good food in peace.

They have started serving milkshakes now at limited locations though the manager at the one I visited said she was told it will be at all unless the franchisee doesn't want to deal with it.

Kirklands frozen 1/3 pound Sirloin patties from Costco cooked on my gas grill are the best hamburgers I have found most anywhere. A close tie is the hamburgers from a little place called Taft Depot in Taft, TN on Old Railroad Bed Rd just north of TN-110. And another I like is Maxwell Grocery ("Beer, Bologna & More") at 12807 David Crockett Hwy, Huntland, TN whose Google Maps picture features my FJR with "ME0W" license plate. https://goo.gl/maps/HZYRdM18jNCavVjs5

Reminds me of Yogi's quote, "nobody goes there anymore, you can't get in".

I love the fries at Five Guys, but the burgers are overcooked. I asked if I could get one, if not rare, then pink? NO!! So I just get the fries. LOL

I see Five Guys all over the place, never tried because I see them all over the place.....like McD's, so I just figured.... I'll have to get out west one of these days and at least try the In-N-Out joint.

My experience with a Five Guys was chaos, messy, and loud. Never went back.
