What exactly is it that the Stage 1 mod does? Are you merely cutting a piece loose and leaving it inside of the muffler, or what?

I see Beowulf in the UK offers some after-market, any other ideas / suggestions ? Thx !

I have Staintunes without the silencers and they sound great! Pricey yes but sound better than most aftermarkets I've heard.

To each his own I guess... my '05 came with the Trooper mod which I thought sounded like shi*. I promptly found a nearly-new set of unmodified cans from another member and swapped them (I leave early each morning for work... I don't need noise). Couldn't even give away the modified cans so I dissected one unit and posted up the results on the "other" forum and then chucked both in the recycle bin.
Here's the report if you're interested: http://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index...-whats-inside/
Regards,
Mr. BR

Btw, here's what the Trooper mod looks like....

If you were lucky enough to get some tailcones back in the day the trooper mod looks like this

I've only had my '05 for about 18 mos now so I missed the early years of the FJR when my bike was new and these mods were being developed.
However, that cone end piece does look nice!

Mr. BR

StainTunes with the DB inserts sound really great and with them removed it sounds kinda loud but really evil. The stock mufflers on my 08 had cats and the Staintunes use a straight thru pipe. They are good for 8 horsepower on an 08 with the DB inserts removed and 4 horsepower on a bike is worth a tenth in the quarter mile. Without the bags and with the pipes it's a slick ride but of course it's not a Busa.

Not a fan of the Trooper mod.... it "burbles" and to me is worse with the add-on cones.
