Ok, so here goes...I’m finally on vacation this week for the first time all year and am planning to ride up to Muenster tomorrow. Don’t really know the roads here (lived here since 2010, but never really ridden here—ridden mostly in California where me and the bike are from).

Hopefully will get much more time to ride this fall/winter/spring (too hot for me in the summer).

Would really appreciate suggestions on day rides of 200-300 miles around where I live (near Southlake). Any ideas welcome!

My almost new 2017 baby with only 3,500 miles is finally gonna get ridden tomorrow!

Muenster is close to the remnants of a WWII POW camp. Let me see if I can find it on a map or something.

There also used to be some roadside metal art somewhere out that way. I was always tagging along and never can remember how to get there. For years it was the same stuff but when I showed my SiL later, it had been changed.

Here it is! Near St. Jo.

OK FJRDude,

You are so gonna have to do this ride, in the Fall, this year:

http://www.talimenascenicdrive.com/

60 miles of twists, turns, and beautiful scenery! All on top a mountain ridge!!

I have done this ride a couple of times, and plan on doing it many more!!

On our next trip, up there, we will stop by and grab you! LOL

Watch your speed. It's a state(?) park and speed limits are strictly enforced. At leaf peeping time (and most others) there's a high chance that you'll encounter many slow moving vehicles, some of which will be clustered together and all having as many cylinders as wheels and be pretending to be rolling roadblocks. Without some sort of ECM and bike-to-bike comms (so you can talk to each other when one has passed and can be eyes for you around the next bend) it's wise to hang back and only pass when legal.

You can’t go too far wrong riding around Muenster. The roads are rolling and the countryside pretty. It’s not going to be Mt. Paloma or Summit Rd. Or any such thing, but it’s OK. Try taking a Loop north from St. Jo through Spanish Fort and down to Nocona.

The two North Texas Sport bike roads are FM455 West of US75 and FM697 from Whitewright up to Sherman. The former is well known and patrolled - probably lots of development now, I’ve been gone for a couple of years.

I realize this is a tad late but I only saw your posting today (9/17) and I was in Colorado and Arizona last week. I live in Denton and this ride is one that I ride somewhat frequently as a day ride.

Hwy. 114 N. -> Hwy. 156 N. -> Justin,Tx.
Hwy. 156 (Justin) -> Hwy. 407 W.
Hwy 407 W. -> 2264 N. (Watch for it!)
Hwy 2264 N. -> Hwy 287 N. (Decatur; only a couple of miles)
Hwy 287 N. -> Hwy 1810 W.
Hwy. 1810 W. -> Hwy 59 N. -> St. Joe
Hwy. 59 N. (St. Joe) -> Hwy 82 E. -> Muenster
Hwy 82 (Muenster) -> Hwy 373 S.
Hwy 373 S. -> Hwy. 922 E.
Hwy. 922 E. -> Hwy 377 S. (Tioga) - this will cross I-35
Hwy 377 S. (Tioga) -> Hwy 455 W. (watch for it!)
Hwy 455 W. -> Hwy. 2450 (Bolivar) - this will cross I-35
Hwy. 2450 (Bolivar) -> Hwy 156. S. (Krum)
Hwy 156. S. (Krum) -> Justin (and back Hwy. 114 S. to home)

Total ~214 mi., Google says 4 hours. Map it out, it will make more sense.

I encourage you to look at the roads surrounding this route and you'll find some alternatives that are nice. Hwys. 455/922/730 are somewhat "major" roads that get you from one to the other. Ping me if you'd like.

Have great rides.

Yeah, that ride is meant to be taken at a safe speed, because the views are amazing!! There are many pull-offs, to stop and take pics. We did it in the Spring and Summer, and it was still beautiful!!

I used to live in Weatherford and the area west of there is some really beautiful country to ride in! Even the major highways out there are visually interesting. Some of the curviest roads are Hwy 4 from Palo Pinto south into Santo and Hwy 1148 on the backside of Possum Kingdom Lake. Mary’s Cafe in Strawn and the Hungry Fox off of 1148, Possum Kingdom Lake, were favorite lunch spots. There’s a variety of other interesting roads, some small, some large. The area is bounded by Hwy 380 on the north, Hwy 281 to the East, I-20 to the south.

On your way through to those areas, Lake Worth has a place called Navajo Burgers near i820 and 7028 Navajo Trail.

Order the Junkyard Burger "old school". The current version is a "loaded" cheeseburger. You have to ask for it the "old way" and it will be a meal for 2 with the double-patty cheese burger hiding in there somewhere. :D

I would love to, but COVID-19 is on the uptick, here in BCS!

Stupid students think they are invincible, and are making the rest of us sick! LOL

I am afraid to leave my driveway!

But yeah, one day, we are going to have to meet up in Kerrville, and go ride the Twisted Sisters!
